Obituary For Irene Frances Zaccagnio Kennedy

A memorial service will performed by Father Rob Staley on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception that will be held immediately following the service.

Irene Kennedy born on June 15, 1941 to Nicholas and Carmella Zaccagnio (DiGirolomo) passed away on December 26, 2018. She was raised in Madison, New Jersey but lived in Raleigh, North Carolina for 40+ years.

Irene retired from Bell South with 31 years of service primarily as a Customer Service Representative.

She is survived by Aunt Angelina Anthony and many dedicated friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

We first met Irene as freshmen in high school. Confident and outgoing, she was a girl ahead of her time. When Irene truly deserved to be on the cheerleading squad, but didn't make it, she initiated the school's first twirling team. Irene was elected president of our senior class, a remarkable achievement in the fifties for a female student. She faced lifes difficulties, even devastating illness, with courage. We argued, cried, and laughed together many times over the past sixty years. And, as the words of that country song go, When you have the choice to sit it out or dance, Irene always danced.
