Obituary For Ida Ruth Adams Ely

Ida attended several educational Institutions and was a teacher’s assistant in Florida and North Carolina. She retired from Wake County Public School System in 2009.
After retirement, she pursued a new adventure, and joined her sister, Elzie Rogers McNeil, deceased), with taking care of people with special needs in their home, which she continued until her passing.
She was also an entrepreneur, sharing businesses, including a thrift store, with her two daughters.
Ida was a woman of deep faith, and attended Mount Peace Baptist Church, in Raleigh, N.C. She believed that every moment was a teachable moment and shared this practice with everyone she came into contact with.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert Lee Ely, Sr., and from this union was born three children. She had many passions, teaching and sewing traveling, and balancing her time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Fond memories of her life will be cherished by her two daughters, Sonja Ely of Garner, N.C; Eleanor Sykes (Kelvin Sykes) of Raleigh, N.C., daughter-in-law, Gia Ely (Robert Lee Ely, Jr. (deceased), of Durham, N.C. One sister, Margaret March, of Raleigh, N.C.; Three Grandsons; Isaiah Solomon (Hau Solomon), Staff Sargent, James Robert Solomon, (Letticia Solomon), Derrick Ely, (Tristan Ely); Two Granddaughters, Brittany Ely(Jeremy Burch), Kendall Ely( Kacie Ann Freudenberger); Four precious great-grandchildren; Josiah, Jade, Ezra, Asher Cashe; Three nieces; Clara Meekens, Etongia Richardson, Alecia Adams; four nephews; Elbert McNeil, Larry March, Elvin McNeil, Bryan Acker, Paxton Adams. One “adopted Son”, Stephen Whitehead (Tanequa Whitehead). Special acknowledgement to her first cousin, sister and friend, Mary Walters (Willie Walters), and many great/ great- great nieces and nephews, and a host of loving family and friends.
