Obituary For Howard Edward Mahlmeister
Howard Edward Mahlmeister, 92, was called home to his Lord on August 23, 2019. He was a native of Buffalo, NY and spent 20 years living in Lakeland, FL before moving to the Raleigh area in 2010.
Howie proudly served in the US Navy immediately after graduation from Riverside High School from 1944 until 1946. After he was honorably discharged post war, he began working for the New York Central Railroad in Buffalo, NY and in Detroit, MI. He continued his career in the automobile transportation industry where he was recruited to work at M&G Convoy in Buffalo, NY and continued there for 24 years before retiring in 1989.
He relocated to Lakeland Florida with his loving wife of 64 years. He volunteered in the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
He loved spending time on the golf course with his friends in Florida and their dogs. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed travelling with his wife in their motor home for the annual family vacation to Myrtle Beach. He and his wife moved to Raleigh, NC in 2010 to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clarene Mahlmeister (neé Moser); parents, Isadore and Gertrude Mahlmeister (neé Rank); and his brother, Donald Mahlmeister. He is survived by his son, Mark Mahlmeister (wife, Joanne); daughter, Amy Shaw; daughter, Sharon Anderson (husband, Eric); sister, Mary Ann Robson; and many nieces and nephew; grandson, Nathan Mahlmeister (partner, Melissa Wix); granddaughter, Ashley Mahlmeister (husband, Edwin Johnson); grandson, Sean Anderson (wife, Sadea); granddaughter, Tracy Shaw; two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Thank you to his loving team of caregivers who provided him with the very best quality of life for several years.
A visitation will occur at twelve o'clock in the afternoon with a funeral mass following at one o'clock on Friday, August 30, 2019 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. The burial will take place immediately following the mass at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.
