Obituary For Hilda Dyck

Hilda (Toews) Dyck died peacefully at Springmoor’s Stewart Health Center in Raleigh, NC on Tue, Oct 15, 2024, at the age of 97. Hilda was born on Jun 3, 1927, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to parents Sarah and Peter Toews. She grew up and attended school in Vineland, Ontario with her three sisters and one brother; Hilda was the last surviving sister. On Sept 2, 1950, she married Rudolph Dyck, and together they moved to Memphis, TN, where her husband went to school and worked. In 1954, Hilda moved with Rudy and their daughter, Eleanor, to Towanda, PA where her second daughter, Edith, was born. She lived most of her life as a homemaker in Towanda. Hilda particularly enjoyed visiting with relatives back in Canada and never gave up her Canadian citizenship. Some of her favorite activities included sewing, baking, board games and playing piano. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Towanda. In her later years, she and her husband moved to Inverness, Florida. In 2012, she and Rudy moved to Dallas, Texas, in 2012 to be close to their older daughter. After Rudy died in 2014, Hilda moved to Raleigh, NC to be close to her younger daughter. While residing at Springmoor, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles and coloring; she also remained a very competitive Chinese Checkers player until her final year. Hilda is survived by her two daughters, Eleanor Goodwin and Edith (Rob) Ennis, and one granddaughter, Sarah Goodwin and two step-granddaughters, Aleta and Alex Ennis; her brother, Edwin (Doreen) Toews and many nieces and nephews who remember her fondly as a kind and generous aunt. Hilda will be cremated on Fri, Oct 25; her remains will later be interred next to husband, Rudy, at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharine’s, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/)

Your parents were neighbors on Plank Road, and gave me my very first architectural commission when I was still a student at Penn State. I remember both of them fondly. Eric Mullendore, Chicago IL
