I enjoyed many lively discussions with Herb trying to solve the world's problems.

My condolences to the family of Herb Smith. I am a friend of his son Bert. Mr. Smith was a successful businessman and though I didn't talk with him a lot---every time I did, he made me laugh. It was easy for me to see where Bert got his great sense of humor from. Rest In Peace. Gene Aleman

Dear Herb, I am deeply saddened with your passing. You were like a father to me. When I joined Mobil, this old combat Marine and newlywed didn't know anything about the lube business. Herb, you and Bud taught me not only about business but more importantly about life. You guys were my mentors - any success I had in my life was in large part due to your help and counsel.
Herb, we also had some great fun together. I remember when you taught me the proper use of the visgage, measuring the viscosity of Henry McKenna (and not wasting a drop!). Bob Berry and the 3881's, Lloyd Calcut at Abitibi Roaring River, getting me out of hot water with the Division Mgr... so many memories. Herb, Cindi and I love you and Gloria. I know you are looking down on us and smiling.
Id like to conclude with a passage that my Mothers priest quoted at her service, from St John Chrysostom, a Christian saint. For me, the passage distills things down to what our faith teaches us
They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are.
Farewell, Herb may God hold you in the palm of his hand. I will never forget you.
