Obituary For Henry Baird Walter

Henry Baird Walter passed away on December 23, 2024 from a grade IV glioma, an extremely aggressive brain tumor.

Henry was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and received his bachelor's degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. At Butler, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, as well as a member of the practice team for the Butler Women’s basketball team.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Dr. Patricia S. Walter and grandparents Henry G. and Estelle Mullins Walter, and Dr. Thomas H. Baird.

Henry’s wife, Megan Cuomo Walter, and daughter, Lucy Walter (1), will always cherish the time they spent together as a family. Despite Henry’s brain cancer affecting him for more than half of Lucy’s life, he was the best father to Lucy, braving long and hot walks through the zoo, changing diapers, capturing countless photos and milestones, reading her favorite books to her in the back seat of the car, and so much more. Henry loved to cook and was very good at it. He continued to cook for the family before and after his brain cancer diagnosis, despite the level of fatigue he was experiencing.

Henry and Megan were married for almost three years, together for over six years. One of Megan’s favorite things about Henry was his care for others and sense of adventure. They traveled to many new places together during their time together, visiting friends and family and exploring the United States. Henry always brought out the best in Megan and was an exceptional husband and partner. Henry and Megan also had a mutual interest in college basketball. Henry loved to watch basketball and liked to analyze and write about Butler basketball in his spare time. There was always something to learn watching a game with Henry.

Henry was always looking to make sure his friends and family were having fun and doing well. He was always checking in and sending thoughtful messages and memes. He was also known for his great sense of humor.

Henry is survived by his wife and daughter; his parents, Henry J. Walter and Alice Baird Walter; his sister, Mary Nancy Walter; his grandmother, Nancy Baird; as well as his aunts and uncle, cousins, and close friends.

A Liturgy to celebrate Henry’s life will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 am at Saint Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, NC. There will also be a visitation with the family at 10 am before the service at the church.

Henry will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

As Henry's high school art teacher I had the great fortune of working with him in art for a number of years at Collegiate. He was such a kind and gentle and likeable guy, who loved basketball. He was generous too. He helped me move houses in 2013. I send love and condolences to his wife, daughter and rest of family. He truly was a wonderful person. Ms. Harrison

Working with Henry over the years was a JOY and I am sorry for your family loss. He will be missed. I know words fall short during these times when people lose a loved one. "...Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No One said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words." Job 2:13 NLT May the LORD, His Word and these songs below bring comfort to your spirit because the Singing Cookes certainly did and still do.
