Obituary For Helen Lorenzoni von Lehmden

Helen Lorenzoni von Lehmden, (85), of Raleigh, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in her home in Raleigh, NC, surrounded by her family and caregiver.

Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on September 10, 1937, Helen was the daughter of the late Monica (Fondriest) and Angelo Joseph Lorenzoni. Helen is preceded in death by her parents Monica and Angelo Lorenzoni, brother Charles Lorenzoni, and sister Rose Wenger. Helen was a 1958 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On September 12, 1959, Helen married the love of her life Darryl von Lehmden. In 63 years of marriage, they exemplified a partnership of unselfish love, and served as the foundation for the extended von Lehmden family.

Upon moving to Raleigh in December 1967, Helen and family became dedicated members of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Helen and Darryl together were long-time volunteers at Catholic Parish Outreach of the Raleigh Diocese. Helen was an incredible stay-at-home mother, and always active in all aspects of Joan, Bernie and Tom’s sports programs, elementary school (Our Lady of Lourdes), high school (Cardinal Gibbons) and college years. She was similarly lovingly involved in those same aspects with her six grandchildren.

To our wife/Mom/Grandma, you will be missed more than we can express, but we will hold fast to beautiful memories of you. There are so many fond times as a family: dining at Casa Carbone or enjoying Cristo’s pizzas, enjoying a glass of Pinot Grigio, watching/tailgating at Ohio State or NC State football games, or watching NC State basketball games, laughing together while watching I Love Lucy, Carol Burnett or Seinfeld episodes, trips to the JC Penney’s candy counter at North Hills Mall for a bridge mix candy treat, annual summer beach trips, holidays together, making each family member feel so loved, prayed for and special.

Helen is survived by her adoring family: husband Darryl; daughter Joan (Forrest) Senter of Raleigh; son Bernie (Suson) von Lehmden of Raleigh; son Tom (Jeanne) von Lehmden of Greenville, NC; grandchildren Jordan (Lacey) Senter, Winston Senter, Annie (Andrew) Bayard, Emmy (Isaac) Redman, Cole (Taylor) von Lehmden, Mary-Haven (Josh) Monahan; soon to be great grandchild (“Baby Monahan”).

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 9 at Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh (7615 Six Forks Rd.), from 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 10 at St. Raphael Church in Raleigh at 1 pm. Inurnment will follow at St. Raphael Columbarium, with a reception following the inurnment.

Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to St. Raphael Catholic School, Cardinal Gibbons High School, or Transitions LifeCare Hospice.

This is a sad time or us. Bone was my wife's roommate at nursing school, and they had many good times and laughs together. We enjoyed visiting with their family the years we lived in OH & NC. She was one "pleasant lady!"

Our thoughts and prayers are being sent to the whole family. Mrs von Lehmden was a wonderful "Mom" to all the kids in Quail Hollow when her kids were young. She will be forever remembered for always keeping us laughing! We will miss her smile but carry wonderful memories. Love from the Jacobs/Vaughan family
