Obituary For Geraldine "Geri" Estelle Hirsch

Geraldine (Geri) Hirsch, 80, resident of Creedmoor, North Carolina passed away peacefully March 6, 2025 at her home with her family at her side.

She was born September 7, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Zigmund and Estelle (nee: Cegielski) Gorecki. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1963. She was united in marriage to Dennis Hirsch on August 13, 1966 at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church Milwaukee. They built a life together that was filled with love, happy times and shared adventures. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi church in Raleigh NC.

Geri was employed in a variety of jobs including serving as Interim Post Master at Sugar Grove, Illinois Post Office, as a technical writer at Bell Northern Research; and editor with the State of North Carolina.

Geri was known as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who made family a priority and was involved in her grandchildren’s lives whether it be through travel, an outdoor adventure, or playing a favorite game. She had a gift for making every moment special; whether it was hosting joyful gatherings, planning the perfect celebration, or simply making sure everyone felt welcomed and loved. She was a gracious and welcoming host known for her large delicious meals and festive holiday celebrations. She enjoyed making her home and garden beautiful. She loved hiking swimming and biking as well as playing games including pinochle and bridge. She was an adventurous hiker and with her family, visited many of the national parks. She particularly loved hiking to Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park and Mount LeConte in Smokey Mountain National Park.

Those Geri leaves behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of over 58 years Dennis; two children, Lori (Chris) Dwinell of Hillsborough, NC; Robin (Barry) Deets of Port St. Lucie, FL; her grandchildren Matthew, Zachary, and Thomas Dwinell, and Dominic Deets; her sisters Pam (Tom) Kaleta, Karen (Ray) Mattson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws: Carol Gardner, Susan (Phil) Beavers, Mary Hirsch, Gale (Jim) Olds, Patty (Tom) Hale, John Hirsch, Kristal (Richard) Jacobson, and Rochelle (Steve) Todd. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Marlene Nievin, Sharon Brody, Darlene Day; brother Kevin Brody; her sisters-in-law Teresa Glaza and Linda Frost; and brothers-in-law Jerry Nievin, Jim Gardner, and Patrick Johnson.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 18th at the Chapel at Saint Francis Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Road Raleigh North Carolina, with Rev. Father Jim Sabak officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Breakthrough TID (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation), the American Cancer Society, or Mountain to the Sea Trail have been suggested. A very special thank you to Amedisys Hospice staff for their loving and compassionate care.
