Obituary For Gerald Justin Reid

Gerald J. Reid, 80, of Raleigh, NC, beloved husband of Sara Kiley Reid, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2010. Born in Hartford, CT on April 29, 1930, Jerry was the son of the late John F. Reid (Frank) and Margaret Ahearn Reid. He graduated from Weaver High School in 1948 and attended Trinity College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. In 1959, Jerry became an active participant in the temporary employment profession beginning as an engineer. In 1971, he founded the Gerald J. Reid Co., Inc. (Reid Engineering Services) to provide engineers, designers and technicians� temporary jobs all over New England. Jerry retired in 2001, after selling his business and moved to Raleigh, NC. Whenever he returned to CT, he very much enjoyed the opportunity to drop in at Reid Associates and visit former employees and customers. Since his college days, Jerry was an active member of the Hartford theater community. He was a member of Actor's Equity and performed in many Hartford Stage productions. He also will be remembered for his performances with the Mark Twain Masquers, Simsbury Theater Guild, and Canton Theater Groups. Besides his wife of 33 years, he is survived by his son, Gerald M. Reid and his wife Denise of Burlington, CT, daughter Margrit Reid and her husband James Roddy of Lyndhurst, Ohio, daughter Mary Reid and her husband Raymond Rundelli of Auburn, OH, daughter Patricia Reid of Arlington, MA , step-daughter Jane Watson and her husband David of Raleigh, NC, step-son Donald Goellner of Torrington, CT ; five grandchildren; Cody Reid Johnson, Claire Rundelli, Grace Rundelli, Shannon Reid, Kelly Reid, two step-grandchildren, Sara Kiley Watson and Kathryn Watson. He also leaves his sister Florence Reid Cutting of Needham, MA, sister in law, Ann Kiley and her husband Glen Simpson of Denver, CO, brother in law Edward A. Kiley and his wife Judith of Rochester, NY, brother in law James W. Kiley and his wife Gloria of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, John Patrick Reid, OP in 1985. Jerry also leaves his 1st cousin J. William Burns and his wife Ann of West Hartford, CT. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a good friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elmcroft of Northridge for their excellent care over the past few months. Funeral Arrangements will be handled by Vincent Funeral Homes, Simsbury, CT. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in Jerry�s name to Wake Med Rehab Hospital, Club Reach Program, 3000 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27610 or the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112.

    Dear Sara, I was deeply saddened to hear about Jerry's passing. We have spoken on the phone occasionally over the years and shared our stories of life's happenings. I particularly enjoyed his.
