Gerald J. Hladik of Raleigh died peacefully at his home in Raleigh on November 15, 2014, at the age of 76, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.

Jerry grew up in Nanuet, NY, and had a successful career with IBM in Kingston, NY, and then in Raleigh, NC. He enjoyed his retirement in Raleigh and Kure Beach, NC. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was generous in his service to others, and had an affinity for good humor. He loved boating and gardening. He had a gift for handiwork around the home and with automobiles, and could fix just about anything. His most treasured times were spent raising his children and laughing with friends and family. His parents, John and Abby Hladik of Nanuet, NY, precede him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Matlack Hladik, whom he met while boating on a beautiful summer day on the Hudson River; his two children, Susan Hladik-Brown and husband Josephus of Raleigh; Gerald A. Hladik and wife Angela Ellis of Chapel Hill, four grandchildren, Karyn Hladik-Brown, Alexis and Jay Hladik, Tameika Brown and his wonderful extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Jerry’s physicians, Dr. Godwin, Dr. Carlson and Dr. Agrawal and associates, and Liberty Home Care and Hospice for their kindness and expert care.

A visitation will be held on November 17th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh. Memorials can be made to the UNC Kidney Center by going to UNCKidneyCenter.org The burial will take place in New York at a later date.
