Obituary For George Lynn Volaric

On July 3, 2011, George Lynn Volaric passed away at 2:29 pm in Raleigh, NC from complications due to Parkinsons disease. George was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 3, 1944 and graduated from Ambridge High School. He voluntarily served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While in the Army he was stationed in Korea where he met his wife Okcha Song. They were married on April 3, 1966.

After his service in the Army, George worked as a machinist at Joy Manufacturing in Franklin, PA. While living in Franklin, George and Okcha started their family with the birth of their children Lisa (1971) and Eric (1973). The family moved to Nickleville, PA where they lived for many years and also welcomed the addition of the youngest family member Alisha (1982). In 1988 the family moved to North Carolina. While in North Carolina the family resided in multiple cities that include New Bern, Oriental, Selma and Raleigh.

After moving to NC, George was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease and he fought bravely against the disease for over twenty years. Despite his diagnosis, he never permitted the disease to define his life and he continued to work and be physically active. He loved nature and spent the majority of his time outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking, auctions and starting projects. He will be remembered as a strong man who was intensely loyal and supportive of his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Burton Scott, MD, PhD of Duke University Hospital and the medical staff at the Durham VA hospital for their dedicated long-term treatment and support that permitted him to live his life to the fullest extent possible.

George is survived by his wife and three children, his sister, Leslie Volaric and two brothers Glenn Volaric and Lee Volaric. He is preceded in death by his parents George and June Volaric. The family invites all of Georges friends to a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 6:00 pm at the home of his daughter who can be contacted at 919.676.3469.
