Professor Shah was a spiritual being that encouraged everyone around her; she was strong and let nothing stop her. She would tell her story about how she learned English and would take computer classes at Wake Tech because she always wanted to learn new skills. That inspired me to be a lifelong learner. Shah was the person that was beside you telling you can do it, the leader in front of you making a path for you. However, her BEST quality pushing you, telling you not to quit. Her favorite piece of advice to me, Randy, you cant save the world. I argued with her and said I could save a few. She would tilt her head, grin, and laugh.

It is with great sadness that I hear of Geeta's passing. I will remember her for her good heart, compassion, and feisty spirit. She would often pull me aside and tell me that I was a 'good girl' even though I am well into my 40s. She was a mother to many and a friend to all. She will be missed greatly. May her soul achieve the highest abode. ~Tanya Scott and family

Geeta Shaw was one of the kindest, warmest, loving, sincere, wonderful ladies that I have ever known. She had a great sense of humour and always had a cheerful personality. You were lucky to have Geeta as your friend. She was so proud of her family - her devoted husband and her two precious daughters. I taught with Geeta at Wake Tech for many years. We were part of a wonderful work family - the business administration department. Geeta was a fantastic and dedicated professor who specialized in Economics. She was invested in her students and took the time to explain and answer questions. She would work with her students for hours regardless of the time. I was in awe of her because of her devotion to her students. When my friend called to let me know of her death, she reminded me of the surprise celebration we had for her when she became a U.S. citizen! She loved her home land, India but she was ecstatic when she also became an American! She was a loyal friend with unconditional love. She helped me through some really hard personal times - she was a very wise woman. I stayed in touch after I left Wake Tech in 2003. She was glad to see me helping others as a Wake County Public Defender. I should have been a better friend and had more contact with her. I regret it and now its too late. She was loved by many and she will be missed by many. The angels are rejoicing that she arrived in Heaven. I feel comfort in knowing that to live in the hearts of those we leave behind - is not to die. And I will be reunited with my friend some day.

I am in shock. I knew my good friend and colleague Geeta was ill, but I had no idea of the seriousness of her illness. I will miss her greatly. She was kind, funny, witty, smart, motherly, wise, and always generous. Her students learned so much from her and loved her classes. I met Geeta my very first day as an employee of Wake Tech. We sat beside each other in the new employee orientation. We talked a lot that day, mostly because Geeta was outgoing and friendly as opposed to my shy, reserved nature. As we were leaving, she told me that we were going to be good friends. She was right. Whenever we saw each other, we hugged and caught up on one another's lives. We worked together on small projects for our classes, and when I moved to a different department from the one I was in, she would come visit me and we'd plan how to continue our collaboration. She would travel to India, her beloved homeland, and bring me back beautiful gifts. When she learned that my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness, she promised to bring me back some good medicine from India. She was a beautiful, gracious women. I was so very proud to see her name in the list of Senior Professors at our most recent college convocation. She deserved that high honor. To her beloved husband and daughters and their families, my deepest condolences. You have lost a precious jewel. My heart mourns with yours.

Senior Professor Shah was my "really, really good friend," a phrase she used for everyone she worked with and taught. For over twenty years at Wake Tech, she was the best of friends, gentlest mentor, confidant, and spirit-booster than anyone could ever hope for. Her smile was always present, and heart-warming. I could not have asked for a better colleague to share each day of my educational career. We often had fun challenging other -- her convincing my accounting students to switch to economics, and me doing my best to convince her economics students to switch to accounting. She was quite a bit more successful than I. That was evident by the hordes of students who visited her daily, excited by her enthusiasm and motherly care for them all. I felt closer to Geeta than almost any other Wake Tech or CPA colleague in my life. I certainly will miss her greatly. Yet, Geeta's smile is engraved in my mind forever.

This breaks my heart. Geeta was one of the most beautiful, kind, intelligent people you could ever meet. She led her students by example, and was always ready with a kind smile for strangers, students, colleagues, and anyone who crossed her path. She will be sorely missed, and her memory will always remind us what she was to all of us, a precious light in a weary world. Our love and prayers are with her family!

I loved working with Geeta. She was an excellent instructor (Senior Professor of Economics) and a wonderful friend. Geeta contributed so much to the success of students, faculty, and staff at Wake Tech and Wake Tech will not be the same without her. Geeta and I used to share Blackboard tips as we were all learning Blackboard in the early stages when we had offices in Holding Hall. She always had a smile on her face and had a friendly and compassionate personality. She will be missed. Paula Rosen

Dr. Shah (even though she always tells me she's not a doctor) is one of the kindest persons I've had the pleasure of meeting. She's always ready to set you straight when you need it but it is done with so much love that you may not realize that your being corrected. Dr. Shah's family: My prayers are with you in this difficult period. ----Leighton

I was so sorry to hear about Geetas passing. She was one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met. I dont think she ever met a stranger and she always had the most positive spirit and a kind word and a smile for everyone. She was truly a joy to know. She will be so missed by all that worked with her and especially by her students. I remember she once told me that she had once told her students that if they would teach her English that she would teach them economics. We will miss her so much and will be praying that your special memories of her will comfort you during this time.

Geeta's family- I am so very sorry for the loss of this great woman. I consider myself to have been blessed by knowing her the past 17 years. She was a very dear, sweet, kind, compassionate and loving friend and co-worker. Geeta's smile was like the sun, bright and shining, and she always had a smile for everyone she came in contact with, as well as a hug. She loved her students, as well as her Wake Tech family- she will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Shah was an amazing person. She saw the best in everyone. She was so positive. She often saw more in a person than they saw in themselves. She is an absolute inspiration. The world is a better place because of her. She will always be around through of all the lives she touched. She did not just teach economics. She taught students how to live and be kind, and she did so through words and through action. I am so grateful that our lives crossed if only for a short while.

I am shocked and saddened to hear this! I took two economics classes from her at Wake Tech. She was one of the best teachers I learned from! She will be sadly missed!

Geeta was such a caring, nurturing, and genuine person. She was probably the nicest person I've ever met, and talking to her put a smile on my face every time. I don't think she ever met a stranger. I know the first time I met her, she talked to me like we'd be friends for years. The world was truly a better place with her in it, and I will miss her dearly. For Geeta's family - I pray that your cherished memories provide comfort in the coming days.
