Obituary For Frederick Michael Henry

Frederick Michael Henry went home to meet the Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the age of 56. He will always be remembered for his quiet strength. Fred was born on December 15, 1958 at a United States Army base in Taipei, Taiwan to Roy J. Henry and Matilde Edad Henry. Fred was raised in California, Hawaii and Germany. Fred attended Sunnyvale High School in Sunnyvale California. After graduating, Fred worked at some startup companies in Silicon Valley. When he was 18 years old, he met Meredith Mitchell who he married in 1981. They were happily married for 34 years. They raised three children, Holly Jean, Jesse Roy and Jonah William. Fred was a loving father and a positive example to them every day. Fred went to night school to earn his associates degree in Computer Science. Fred had a passion for computers and a real knack for helping others whether it be just teaching how to use them or trouble shooting and repairing them.

His wife Meredith often said that God gave her share of patience to Fred. Fred and his family resided in Raleigh, NC since 1991. He was kind, soft spoken and a fierce advocate for his friends and loved ones. He worked at North Carolina State University for the last two years and was very happy in his work as he was surrounded by such wonderful and special co-workers. Fred’s greatest passion was his part-time job at Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center, where he worked part-time for over 13 years. Fred was as kind, patient and as friendly as they come. He always brightened everyone’s day that he came across.

Fred is preceded in death by his father Roy and his brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife Meredith, his children Holly, Jesse and Jonah, his mother Matilde, his brother William and his mother-in-law Jean and by his friends and everyone else who loved him.

Holly and family, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy to lose a family member, especially a father/husband. It gives me comfort to know he will no longer have to suffer but breaks my heart to know you all are mourning his loss. He was a man of few words but he never knew a stranger. It was an honor to be able to meet him the few times that I did, he was such a great guy! I send you all my condolences and pray that you all find peace in this time of need. -Margie Ray-

Fred was a wonderful man. He walked into a room and it lit up ten times more.. He was a great joker. He and I were like Abbott and Costello at work, always trying to crack one another up! I will miss his sunshine every day.. I do know there is love and laughter in heaven now.. I will miss you dear friend....Fondly, Nancemarie

Fred was such a kind person and never seemed to get flustered or angry at anyone ever. He was truly very personable and easy to befriend. I am glad to have known and worked with him. Our sympathy is with Meredith and the children during this time.

Growing up with Fred (or Freddie as he was known to us), I recall him to be one of the kindest and funniest "cousins" I had, and also one of the most positive people I knew. I never knew him to be mean or an angry person. In fact, he always seemed to have a positive outlook on life. We grew up in the waning days of muscle cars, and Freddie knew all about cars and how to fix them up. I dug the "Goat" he used to drive! I'm saddened by his passing, and my and my family's thoughts and prayers go out to Meredith and the kids. I'll always remember him with a smile on my face.

I never had the privilege to know Fred after he became an adult, but my memories of him, his brothers, as part of the family of Roy and Lude, are those of a fine young man, and loving son and brother. He and his brothers "house sat" for my family when we went on vacation and we were very comfortable with them...even after we heard they were jumping from a balcony into the swimming pool!! Fun memories, and I am so sorry to learn that he was taken much too soon! My prayers and sincere condolences for your loss.

With Auntie Ludy as my babysitter for the first several years of my life, Freddie was naturally one of the adults I looked up to growing up. So friendly and fun, I always enjoyed his visits to Uncle Roy and Auntie Ludy's Sunnyvale, CA home across from Ortega Park. Auntie Ludy would tell me stories about her sons, so anytime one of them came over, and especially Freddie, it was a real treat. While I only have vague memories as Freddie and Meredith's ring bearer (I'm very honored they chose me!), I vividly remember the wonderful time I had with the North Carolina Henrys during one Thanksgiving while I was in college. Freddie, Meredith, and the boys made the 4.5 hour drive to Annapolis (and later brought me back too) to pick up me up for that holiday break. Before we left, I gave them a quick tour of the "campus" and our "dorm." The latter was very empty as almost all the midshipmen had left for vacation. Because "civilians" weren't allowed to be inside our living quarters, we ran through the halls so as to not get caught by anyone! On the way down to NC, they treated me to my very first Cracker Barrel meal. With the long amount of time spent in the minivan, the pre-teen Jesse and young Jonah were antsy, but I marveled at Freddie's firm yet gentle demeanor in calming them down. His patience and ability to deliver his message without raising his voice in anger had me taking mental notes on his parenting style so that I might emulate it someday. Of course, hanging out with them in Raleigh was a blast...with many more mental notes stored. How he was with Meredith and teenager Holly (way better than the average but still a teenage girl!), were such positive examples of the husband-wife and father-daughter relationships. Freddie truly is among those excellent male role models I've been lucky to have growing up (as is Meredith for female role models!). Wow, what a blessed Thanksgiving with Freddie and his family, all of whom always treated me like family. I'm grateful

Fred was truly a wonderful person, full of patience and a graceful manner with everyone he met, a true gentleman. I enjoyed working with Fred in the Concealed Carry classes and he will truly be missed. Prayers for Meredith and the family. I know Fred will be looking down this weekend and the next class still lending a helpful hand. Steve Johnson

This is for the family of Fred Henry: Fred had so many wonderful qualities. He definitely had a quiet strength about him. Where someone would go ranting and raving, Fred would calmly take the situation and handle it. He loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He was kind, gracious, funny, forgiving, loving, trustworthy, and so much more. Fred and Meredith were an inseperable team, they are truly the best people, parents, friends and family anyone could ask for. I haven't seen Fred too much in the last few years on a consistent basis, but whenever I came to visit he would always join in the conversation. I will miss not seeing him during those and other times. He left a wonderful legacy behind. Fran , Bernie, Jesse and Lisa

To my Kaikua`ana, best friend, my brother, my voice of reason, my partner in all good things and some bad, my compadre; you were always, always there when I needed you. You protected me, defended me, scolded me, praised me but most of all you loved me with all my faults. You help me grow and encouraged me in every workplace we were together for almost 25 years and then helped me grow more even though I could take you with me in these last 10 years. I am blessed to have had your guidance as a big brother and was always proud when you told everyone I was your "brother from a different mother". The memories from the 80's in San Francisco and San Jose, to our adventures here in North Carolina will be shared with our children and grandchildren. Joey, Daniel, Chris, Julie and Christina will always have happy memories of Uncle Fred, especially with the all night/morning Nintendo marathons. But most of all, they will remember how much you loved them and cared for them as much as you loved your own Holly, Jesse and Jonah. They are all now fine adults with such bright futures, because of your guidance. God asked you to come home, because you completed your mission here and with distinction. Your example of leadership, fellowship, caring and compassion touched more than you will ever know. Meredith, would always tell me of your thoughts of me, but let me tell you that it was like you, Freddie, that I aspired to be like. When we lasted spoke that last Friday before you left to go to heaven, I just wanted you to know you meant the world to me and I was going to make sure the house was taken care of so you didn't have to worry and just enjoy the time with family. Although you voiced your concerns about my time away from Dianne and my own obligations, the priority was with you and yours. That was our Aloha to you, Mer and the kids. That is what O'hana is and Aloha means. Sometimes monetary issues have to take a back seat. You taught me well brohda and I will always be gra

When I get where I'm going On the far side of the sky The first thing that I'm gonna do Is spread my wings and fly I'm gonna land beside a lion And run my fingers through his mane Or I might find out what it's like To ride a drop of rain Yeah when I get where I'm going There'll be only happy tears I will shed the sins and struggles I have carried all these years And I'll leave my heart wide open I will love and have no fear Yeah when I get where I'm going Don't cry for me down here I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy And he'll match me step for step And I'll tell him how I missed him Every minute since he left Then I'll hug his neck Yeah when I get where I'm going There'll be only happy tears I will shed the sins and struggles I have carried all these years And I'll leave my heart wide open I will love and have no fear Yeah when I get where I'm going Don't cry for me down here So much pain and so much darkness In this world we stumble through All these questions I can't answer So much work to do But when I get where I'm going And I see my maker's face I'll stand forever in the light Of his amazing grace Yeah when I get where I'm going There'll be only happy tears Hallelujah I will love and have no fear When I get where I'm going Yeah when I get where I'm going www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYHT-TF4KO4 Written by: Melvern Rivers Ii Rutherford, George Teren
