Obituary For Franklin D. Orr

Franklin “Frank” Dwayne Orr, 72 of Sanford, North Carolina passed away on October 3, 2015 from a stroke.

Frank was born to Wayne and Laura (McDaniel) Orr in Lafayette, Indiana on January 18, 1943. He grew up on the family farm in Boswell, Indiana. He participated in Future Farmers of America and 4H for many years. He graduated in 1961 from Boswell High School where he played basketball and performed in the senior play. After high school, he attended DeVry Technical Institute, in Chicago, IL and graduated with an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the Army National Guard and Air National Guard as well.

Frank married Patricia (Pat) Darby on February 3, 1968 in Des Plaines, Illinois. They were married 37 years before she passed away on June 20, 2005.

Frank worked for IBM for 35 years before he retired in December of 1998. He enjoyed farming, gardening, DIY home projects, camping with his family, building computers, photography, and fixing cars. He was actively involved in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERTS) at Carolina Trace in Sanford, NC. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Katheryn "Kathy" Rogers and her husband, Robert Rogers of Raleigh, NC; nieces: Debra Lane and Diana (Andy) Schroeder of Boswell, IN; nephews: Daryl Davis and Dan Davis, of Colorado; his loving fiancée, Marilyn Parish; extended family and many wonderful friends.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann (Darby) Orr; his parents; his sister, Loretta Glover; and his brother, David Orr.

The visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Monday, October 12, 2015, at Renaissance Funeral Home of Raleigh. The funeral service will also be at the funeral home at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. The service will be officiated by Pastor Steve Tillis along with Pastors Billy Rave and Jaime Sellers. The burial will immediately follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, in Raleigh, NC.

Due to severe allergies, in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Arthritis Foundation at www.arthritis.org or Future Farmers of America at www.ffa.org

The family of Franklin D. Orr would like to thank the staff of The Oaks at Mayview and Dr. James Parsons for their compassionate care of Frank during the last several months. They would also like to thank Transitions Life Care for their tender care of Frank and the family in his last days and hours.

    Our condolences to your family. Frank was a year behind us in school. He grew up right south of our Dimmich farm. He and I rode the bus together all through school.
