Obituary For Frances "Fran" M. Huber Itgen

Frances M. Itgen, 87, of Clayton, NC, passed on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was born on March 19, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY to Josef and Franzisk "Fanny" Rapple Huber. Her parents were from Bad Peterstal, Germany. They immigrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1926 and became restaurant owners. Frances "Fran" was born in Brooklyn, but was raised in Germany until 1939 before returning to Brooklyn, NY.

Frances grew up in Woodside and Maspeth, Queens, NY and graduated high school from Newtown High, Queens, NY. In 1955 she met Herbert Itgen thru mutual friends of both parents. They married in 1956. Afterwards, they settled in Levittown, NY when the suburb first opened and then moved to Garden City, New York in 1967 where they raised four children. Herb and Fran moved to Hurst, Texas in 1986. While in Hurst, Fran worked for over 20 years as a school crossing guard at the local school. She loved seeing and talking to the children every day. Eventually she moved to the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina in 2011.

Frances loved Long Island from Brooklyn to Mattituck, especially the beaches. She loved her family and close friends. Enjoyed being a mom, animals, gardening, cooking, sewing, reading and traveling.

Frances was preceded in death by husband, Herb in July 2002. She is survived by her children: Diane Itgen, Linda (Bill) Turman, Joseph (Lisa), and Paul (Robin); grandchildren: Stephen (Mandy), Christina, Caroline, Rachel, Andrew, and Jonathan; and great grandchildren: Christopher, Daimyan, and Danica.

A Visitation will take place on Monday, January 17, 2022, at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY 11040 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, New York on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please choose a charity of your choice to honor Frances.
