Obituary For Frances Best Reckerd

Mrs. Frances Best Reckerd, 72, of Cary, NC peacefully passed away on August 12, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Pearl Best. Frances was born March 15, 1950 in Fort Bragg, NC. She was wed to Jerry Reckerd on June 10, 1972. During their happy union, they were blessed with two children, Geoffrey and Lauren. During their 50 years of marriage, Frances and Jerry lived in Fayetteville, NC, Charlotte, NC, Mobile, AL, and settled in Cary, NC in the early 1990’s.

Frances was a graduate of Pine Forest Senior High School in Fayetteville, NC. She graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Social Work, after which she spent over 30 years providing help to children and families in North Carolina. Frances began her social work career with Mecklenburg County Child protective services and then moved to Child Care Resources Inc. in Charlotte. Finally, she retired from a career of service to her community from Wake County Department of Social Services in 2012. In her free time before and after retirement, Frances loved European travel, caring for her puppies, and enjoying fine food with neighbors and friends.Frances was admired for her sense of humor and ability to easily make friends. Always happy, gentle, and a caretaker of all.

Frances was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Jensen. She is survived by brother Louis Best of Cheshire, CT. Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Geoffrey (Betsy) Recked of Charlotte, NC and Lauren (Scott) Chappell of Apex, NC. Frances loved her grandchildren Davis(11) and Shelby(8) Chappell of Apex, NC and Haynes(5) Reckerd of Charlotte, NC.

The family will receive friends to honor Frances at a drop-in memorial reception at Rey’s Restaurant, 1130 Buck Jones Rd, Raleigh, NC 27606 on Saturday August 20, 2022 from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Taylor Northwest Cary YMCA
