Florence Agnes Dunn Hartye, 97, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 23, 2019. She was born on February 15, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York daughter of the late George and Mary Jane Dunn.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice; brothers, Joe and George; and husband, Robert W. Hartye. Florence is survived by her daughter, Kathy Reis and sons, Bob, Frank, Jim and Tom. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Florence attended Hunter College in New York City graduating with a BA in Latin.
Florence (Flo) and Robert (Bob) were married August 10, 1946 after Bob returned from serving his country. They raised five children in Brooklyn, New York; Louisville, Kentucky; and Westfield, New Jersey.
Throughout their marriage, Flo and Bob were partners in serving people in need in the communities in which they lived from developing shelters for battered women, to teaching literacy to inmates, assisting at homeless shelters, and many other missions/charities associated with several churches including St. Francis. They both were very active with civil rights issues for many years which Flo has continued with her involvement in Moral Monday and the Poor People's Campaign.

She loved singing and dancing and penetrating discussions on all aspects of life throughout her life. Flo always met everyone with a smile, and always strove to “accentuate the positive…”
“Grandma Flo , you’re a precious gem that God has made to shine for him.”
