Evelyn J. Levin, widow of Raphael A. Levin, MD, and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died at her residence in Magnolia Glen of Raleigh with her children in attendance.

The 7th of nine children of Dora and Julius Jacobs, she was raised in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. After graduating from William Penn High School for Girls, she worked as a bookkeeper, and later, as a stenographer during World War II for the Army Signal Corps. After the War, she worked as an office manager and then did double-duty, raising her family and running her husband�s medical practice. In 1972, she and her husband relocated to Ventnor, New Jersey, and retired to Raleigh in 1987. Married for sixty-four loving years before her husband�s death in April 2012, they moved to Magnolia Glen in 2007. Evelyn was a faithful and generous friend to many, and welcomed each newcomer to Magnolia Glen. She was devoted to her charitable causes, for which she was an indefatigable fundraiser, including acting as President of the Rose Carnival for Germantown Hospital in Philadelphia and Chapter President for Hadassah of Wake County. When not attending to her family and friends and charitable work, she relaxed with her expert knitting and duplicate bridge.

She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and three of her brothers.

She is survived by her son, Robert M. Levin, MD, of Boston, Massachusetts, and by her daughter and son in law, Mina L. Levin, MD, and Ronald Schwarz, MD, of Raleigh, and her grandson, Jonathan Schwarz, and his wife, Shannon M. Murtagh, and their daughter, Teagan Murtagh Schwarz, of Seattle, Washington. Also surviving are her younger brothers, Irvin Jacobs, MD and wife Jewel of Dallas, Pennsylvania; Charles Jacobs and wife Joan, of Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is greatly indebted to Evelyn�s devoted caretaker and loving friend, Marcella Holder, and the administration and staff of Magnolia Glen. They have also appreciated the untiring care and concern provided by Cheryl McNeil, MD, of Doctors Making Housecalls, and Rabbi Raachel Jurovics.

A graveside service will be held at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery on Thursday, March 28th, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: Raleigh Chapter of Hadassah, 4856 Winterwood Drive, Raleigh, NC 27613.
