Obituary For Ernest Gilbert Daniels

Colonel ( USAF Ret) Ernest Gilbert Daniels, MD, 59 of Raleigh, died Friday morning, March 25th 2016. A native of Reno, Nevada, Ernest graduated a five-time letterman in wrestling and football from Earl Wooster High School, Reno, NV, in 1974. He attended Colorado State University, earning his Bachelors degree in Microbiology in 1978. Ernest received his doctorate in medicine and completed his residency at Ohio State University, where he met his wife Kathleen. Ernest served 32 years in the Air Force, retiring a Colonel in 2011. After retirement, he continued serving our veterans as medical director at the Raleigh VA clinic.

Ernest is survived by his parents Sylvia and Bill Daniels, wife Kathleen (Kathy) Rickard, three children Kenneth, Andrew and Kelly, brother Steven, sister Lynette and countless other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Gilbert and Irene Selfridge and brother Colonel ( USAF Ret) James Michael Daniels.

Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with reception following 11401 Leesville Rd Raleigh NC 27613. All are welcome. Internment shall be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local ALS chapter.

    I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Daniels passing. He treated me for years at the Raleigh VA. I always enjoyed our appointments and especially discussing our military careers. I have truly missed seeing him. He was a great man and will be greatly missed. May the Lord be with the family as you cope with this loss. James Reno

    I had the extraordinary privilege to work directly for Colonel Daniels while he was here at the 315th AMDS. He is an outstanding man and was a great mentor. I find my mind wandering back to the times when he was teaching me the ropes. I sorely miss him.
