In Loving Memory of Elvis Tanyi

August 3, 1974 - May 18, 2024

With profound sadness, we mourn the loss of Elvis Tanyi, a cherished husband, father, son, and friend. Elvis passed away peacefully in the UNC Chapel Hill Medical ICU in Chapel Hill, NC on May 18, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was 49 years old.

Born on August 3, 1974, in Mamfe, Cameroon, to Monica Njong Tanyi, Elvis' journey was one marked by dedication and achievement. He graduated from Bishop Rogan College in 1990 and St. Joseph’s College, Sasse Buea, Cameroon in 1992. Elvis later earned a Pharm.D. degree from the University of Ferrara in 1999. His pursuit of knowledge continued as he obtained a Master of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management from Rutgers University in 2016.

In 2004, Elvis united in marriage with his soulmate, Margaret Tanyi. Together, they nurtured and raised two wonderful children, Elvis Jr. and Becky Tanyi. Elvis exemplified unwavering devotion as a husband and father, prioritizing his family above all else. His love and commitment radiated through every facet of his being.

For over two decades, Elvis served as a pharmacist, touching the lives of innumerable customers and patients with care and compassion. As the CEO and Pharmacy Director of OMNISALUS INC, he skillfully managed City Pharmacy in downtown Raleigh, NC, forging deep connections with each individual under his care through his exceptional services.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Elvis found joy in cooking and cherished moments spent with his family.

Elvis is survived by his beloved children, Elvis Tanyi Jr. and Becky Tanyi, his devoted wife, Margaret Tanyi, and his mother, Monica Tanyi.

Elvis' legacy of warmth, kindness, and generosity will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were touched by his presence. His legacy of love, intelligence, and empathy will be treasured and perpetuated by his family, friends, and the countless lives he influenced.

Elvis was a truly remarkable individual who dedicated himself to serving and positively impacting his community in various ways. His efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic to address disparities in healthcare access and provide support to marginalized communities demonstrate his selflessness and commitment to helping those in need.

His involvement in obtaining and distributing Covid tests, administering countless vaccinations, and working with immigrant communities reflects a deep sense of compassion and a willingness to step up in times of crisis. Additionally, his appointment to the Hispanic and Immigrant Affairs Board by the Raleigh City Council is a testament to the recognition of his impactful work and dedication to serving the community.

Elvis' collaboration with other Cameroonian pharmacists to organize the Cameroonian Pharmacists’ Association’s Annual Convention further highlights his commitment to advancing healthcare, education, and resources, both locally and globally.

His actions and dedication to service, as inspired by the example set by Jesus Christ, serve as an inspiring reminder of the power of love, humility, and selfless service to others.

Elvis' legacy of community involvement and compassionate leadership will undoubtedly continue to inspire others to make a positive impact in the world.

Rest peacefully, Elvis. Your spirit will forever illuminate the lives of those you loved and inspired.

"Where there is love, nothing is too much trouble and there is always time." This quote epitomizes the life of our brother Elvis. My family and I felt we had particular attention from Elvis, until we noticed he gave the same kind attention to everyone he served. He was indeed a lover of all peoples. My doctor, our pharmacist, you have left us heartbroken and distressed, but God Almighty knows better. I pray you soar ever nearer to the worlds beyond where we sorrow no more and live in perpetual bliss. Because you deserve to abide with the angels in the high heavens. Farewell my "cham" brother! Until we meet again on the worlds beyond.

His personal magnetism and motivation will always be remembered. With so little, he positvely impacted so many in the community in such a short time. Boy, (as we funly call each other) It feels surreal to wake up each day, hoping this harsh reality is just a dream. You departed too soon, leaving us with hearts heavy with sorrow. We were eagerly anticipating celebrating your 50th birthday in a few months. I vividly remember our last conversation by your hospital bed, where you made a promise to visit us in Charlotte and cuddle the newborns. I am still holding onto that promise, waiting for your presence... Your persistent commitment to serve others whenever need be is a quality beyond words. May your serene soul find eternal peace. Farewell, dear brother. With heartfelt regards, Terrence Ngemsi
