Obituary For Elizabeth Maynard Cox

In loving memory of Elizabeth “Betsy” Maynard Cox:

Betsy Cox, born on May 10th, 1950, was the cherished daughter of James and Ella Mae Maynard. Growing up in a loving family, she shared her childhood with her older brother, Dr. James L. Maynard, of Rock Hill, SC. Betsy's life was filled with love and laughter, and her warmth touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Betsy's legacy lives on through her beloved children: Bryan Cox, Doug Cox (Katie Cox) of Raleigh, NC, and Kristen Coleman (Justin Coleman) of Denver, CO. She found immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother, treasuring every moment spent with her grandchildren: Alyssa Jordan, Zoe Cox, Haley Cox, Preston Cox, and Presley Cox.

Throughout her life, Betsy found companionship and solace in the company of her loyal King Charles Spaniel dogs, Lacey and Ella. They brought her endless joy and comfort.

Johanna Horne, Betsy's best friend of 70 years, stood as a testament to their enduring bond and shared memories. Together, they navigated life's joys and challenges, providing unwavering support to one another.

Betsy's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and touched. Her kindness, love, and laughter will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she brought into the world.

A graveside service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park 2911 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27603 on May 14th at 2pm. Friends and family are invited to attend. Funeral arrangements by Renaissance Funeral Home of Raleigh. Remembrance service to be held at a date TBD.

You were here for every phone call, every move, every bad relationship, weekly dinners, weekly drinks, our favorites being hibachi, Mediterranean and Mexican. Our go to drink a frozen pina colada. Neither of us really like frozen drinks either. You taught me patience, love, empathy and strength. You were the support beams of our family. Listening to my work stories, letting me leave the dogs there if need be, giving relationship or friendship advice. Up until the night before you left this earth. you were my strength when I couldn't find any in myself. I will feel the loss of you every day for the rest of my life. You took on the role of a grandmother so beautifully. The way that I feel is unimaginable. I know your loss will be mourned by many. You left everyone with the best memories, which makes it harder to know we cannot create any more with you. I will forever cherish time spent in your living room, my weekends spent with you. I will continue being the best person that I can be. For you. I will be patient, kind and considerate. I will bite my tongue for you. I will love my dogs extra for you. I will love harder for you. I only wish I had one more phone call, one more dinner, one more drink, one more weekend. I love you. I know you are still here. I feel your presence. I see you in the beautiful red cardinals and white butterflies.

I'm having trees planted in her honor. Trees are enduring like the memory of Betsy will be. I will miss her forever.

Betsy was a cherished member of our small community and we enjoyed her company and conversation while walking her dog. She was taken far too early and will be missed. Warmest regards to the entire family at this difficult time.
