Obituary For Eleanor Milner

Eleanor Milner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born December 6, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York , Eleanor was the cherished daughter of Jack Halushko and Agnes Deresh Halushko. She carried with her a deep sense of strength and loyalty her entire life—a spark that first caught her husband Edwin H. Milner’s attention in a bar nearly 65 years ago. As the story goes, Eleanor was out with her girlfriends when a Navy friend of Edwin’s made an inappropriate remark. Without hesitation, Eleanor knocked the man out cold—and when Edwin laughed, she promptly punched him too. That fiery first impression sparked a love that endured nearly 65 years, missing their anniversary by just one month.

Eleanor began her career in education working with the Mall Project, serving special education students with compassion and dedication. Her passion for supporting students led her to rise through the ranks in the Westbury, NY school system, ultimately serving in administrative roles that impacted countless lives.

Her heart, however, always belonged to her family and the many adventures they shared. She traveled the world with her lifelong PTA friends, always ready for the next destination and the laughter that came with it. Later in life, she and Edwin embraced their love of cruising, exploring the seas together as devoted travel companions.

Eleanor was a skilled crafter and creator in her spare time—always making something with love and care. But above all, she was a pillar for her family: strong, smart, fierce, and deeply loving.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Edwin; her sister Jeanne Schwarsin (Walter); her three children, Denise Nizich (Greg), Jackee Ermansons (Maris), and Ed Milner (Danielle); her seven grandchildren, Matt (Taylor), Jessica (William), Samantha (Chris), Danielle (Ryan), Shannon, Thomas, and Charlotte; and her two great-granddaughters, Avery and Olivia.

Her family will forever carry forward her legacy of strength, sass, and boundless love.

A life well-lived, a woman well-loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
