Obituary For Edward Samuel Hill

Edward 'Sam' Hill died of natural causes at the age of 90. He was born and raised in Johnson City, NY. Joining the Navy in 1942, he attended gunnery and sonar school. He worked as a radio operator, radar technician and gunner on patrol bombers. Sam was married to Mary Saba Hill for 63 years. They moved to Raleigh in 1966 and he remained in the same home until one month prior to his passing. He worked at IBM for 40 years as a senior designer and lab controller. Music was his love and he engaged family and friends in frequent 'jam sessions'. He sang Barbershop harmony, played guitar and ukulele, and sang beautifully. He and Mary also square-danced with the Star Twirlers, and danced a mean jitter bug. A talented carpenter and designer, he single-handedly built our family houseboat, custom bars in restaurants, and part of our family home. He loved tinkering in his garage workshop. His loving and witty sense of humor endeared him to many. He leaves behind his devoted daughters: Pat Pagano, Jolayne Dunaway, and Jackie Hill; along with many other beloved immediate and extended family members. Donations may be made to the Wake County SPCA. There will be no public service at Sam's request.

Jackie and family, My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. I hope the memories you each have are shared over and over and bring comfort to you. I know Sam loved his girls and you all did a wonderful job caring for him. I will never forget his smile - just like in the picture in the paper. Love to you all.
