Obituary For Edward Patrick Mealia
Edward Patrick Mealia, of Raleigh, NC passed away on November 15, 2022. The son of the late Edward A. and Elizabeth McEnroe Mealia, he was born on February 5, 1937 in New York City, NY. After graduating from Hastings HS in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, earned a BA in Philosophy from St. Anthony’s Seminary in Hudson, NH and a Masters Degree in English Literature from Western Connecticut University. Edward loved his career as a High School English teacher in the Wappingers Falls, NY School District and was also an Adjunct Professor of English Literature for Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY. Edward is survived by his two sons, Brendan and Colin, and their mother, Margaret DePalma Mealia of Lagrangeville, NY, siblings Kathleen (Richard, dec.) Stucklen of Stuart, FL; Barbara (Dennis, dec.) Ligay of Raleigh, NC; and Kevin Mealia (Carol Morrison) of Ocean Pines, MD. He was Uncle Ed to eleven nieces/nephews and had many cousins. While growing up in Hastings, Edward loved Draper Park and the beauty of the Hudson River and the Palisades. Edward will be remembered as a most avid reader and sports enthusiast, as well as for his intelligence and interest in all things worldly. He had a great love of animals, especially canines for whom he was a “parent” to many throughout his life. After he retired, Edward made his home in Raleigh, NC where a memorial was held for the family.
