Obituary For Earl Harry Reedy

Earl Harry Reedy, 85, joined his loving wife June with the Lord Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Earl was born January 12, 1928 in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania to Charles Earl Reedy and Dorothy Fisher.

Earl was predeceased by his loving wife Lois June, "Mo" to her grandchildren, whom he married in 1948. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law Jeff and Lori Reedy of Raleigh and Kevin and Karen Reedy of Camillus, NY. He was lovingly called “Pop" by his five grandchildren Nolan, Casey, Mallory, Elizabeth, and Samuel. Earl was predeceased also by his only sister Virginia Eavenson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Earl adored his wife June and treasured all their 63 years together. He reveled watching his grandchildren grow up spending many summers at their beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. After he served two years in the US Army, Earl and June lived in eight different states as he worked as an electrical engineer with IBM for over 35 years on projects which involved flying on B52s with the Strategic Air Command and the development of the NASA space shuttle. His interests in aviation also lead him to become a private pilot. He had lived in Raleigh since 1992.

Earl enjoyed fixing computers, golf, jazz music, playing the clarinet, and savored traveling and years of long walks with June. They enjoyed the last years at and will be dearly missed by their family of friends of the Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh. "Pop" penned a detailed account of his life with "Mo" which was published as 'The Best Investment I Ever Made” to be treasured and shared with his family for generations to come. Overcoming many adversities early in his life, Earl became a rock as the patriarch of the Reedy family and an example of strength, responsibility, kindness, sharing and love for his sons and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2013 at 11am at Renaissance Funeral Home.

Joy and I were saddened to hear of Reedy's passing. We actually choked up when I read the E-mail to her. He was a REAL good friend. We're sure he is happy to be with June again When our time comes, we both look forward to seeing them; and renewing our closeness. Our prayers go out to you and Kevin and your families. I have been friends with Earl since I started working with IBM in 1961. I had the pleasure of bring him to Manassas to work for me in the 80's, He was a great friend and a fantastic quality engineer. I will miss him. I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless you and your family. Steve

Jeff, My deepest sympathy. I understand how 'disconnected' it makes you feel when both of your parents are gone. It is especially difficult around this time of year. You now are the patriarch of the Reedy family. It feels strange, but your Dad prepared you for this. Know that there is nothing greater he could have done than to have raised two fine men. We were so saddened to learn of your Dad's passing. We met June and Earl by sharing bisquits and coffee at McDonald's every Tuesday morning. We had all lived in Upstate New York (Binghamton area for them, Oneida for us) before coming to Raleigh. We would linger late so that we could visit with them after the crowd left. We enjoyed their company so much. June was so cute and adoring and he was such a caring husband. Since June left us, we often had breakfast with your Dad. Fortunately, Earl was able to attend our 60th Anniversary luncheon Nov.9th. That was the last we saw him. We will miss him. Helen and Carl Jenkins

Reedy and I worked together at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC in 2957 We were part of a team of IBM and Raytheon Technical Representatives working with the Air Force on the Bombinb/Navigation system in the B-52 aircraft. His first day at work he was assigned to teach a class on the Kearfott Astrocompass to a group of young airmen. He had only a minimum of exposure on this system, but he hit the books at night and stayed a day or two ahead of the class. When it was finished, he was the only expert on the Astrocompass on the base. It was typical of Reedy to take on a difficult assignment and complete it successfully. We both moved on the different bases until we both moved back to Owego to the same neighborhood. He was a good friend and I will miss him/ Bob Zellner

Thanks so much for your message informing us of the sad news about your Dad's passing. Not only to you; but, I feel it was truly a shock to everyone who knew him. I can hear him now, when I called him to say Happy Thanksgiving, and said Earl, how are you. And, as always, he would say "hanging on".
