Obituary For Dowell Kenneth Waltz

On February 5th, 2017, while most of America prepared to watch the Superbowl, Dowell Kenneth Waltz joined his beloved wife Ruth Elizabeth Skorloff Waltz, who passed away August 17th, 2015. Her passing kept them apart for the past seventeen months.

Ken was born on January 18th, 1931 in Winfield, MD to Marie Anne and Clifton Miller Waltz. Ken worked in the family business, helping to manage a funeral home with his father for several years during his youth, He then enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during the Korean war. Upon returning home after the war, Ken moved to Mt Rainier, MD where he met Ruth Skorloff who was literally the “girl next door”. The two were married on September 26th, 1958. Five years later, in June of 1963, their son, Douglas Clifton was born and then nearly 3 years to the day, the Waltz's welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Kersten Ann in 1966 while living in Kaiserslautern Germany.

Ken and his family returned to the US in 1971, where Ken worked for the government as an auditor for the Army Corp of Engineers out of Ft. Belvoir, VA. Ken and Ruth eventually retired in Knoxville, TN in 1992 where they made many lasting friends and relationships. They finally settled in Raleigh, North Carolina in October, 2007 to be closer to both their children.

Ken was an avid golfer and handyman. He loved animals of all shapes and sizes. He was an incredibly kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Please check back for details.

Ruth and I bonded over our husbands. We laughed and cried over them both. Ken was special. Always had a smile for me. Loved your parents and love you three, Kersten, Douglas and Josh. You were the light of their lives. Kitty Barco
