Obituary For Dorothy Marie Weber Chlan
Dorothy Chlan passed away peacefully on January 24, 2012 at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh, NC. Dorothy was born in Hillside, NJ on January 14, 1926 to Katherine and Wilfred Weber. She attended Limestone College and subsequently worked at Bell Labs in New York City until meeting and marrying her sweetheart, Charles Arthur Chlan. Dorothy and Charlie were married on October 5, 1945 and eventually moved to Westfield, NJ where they raised their two children. She was also a resident of Bridgewater, NJ for 40 years and was a faithful and active member of Bridgewater United Methodist Church. â??Dotâ?? was an avid bridge player and puzzle enthusiast, and loved the Jersey Shore where she spent countless days throughout her life. She took particular pride in her service at SHIPâ??s GALLEY Soup Kitchen, and enjoyed a wonderful community of friends through her activities. Dot was suddenly widowed in 1986 but maintained her strong spirit through lifeâ??s challenges. She moved to Raleigh in 2010 and enjoyed being able to share so much time with family. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Charlie and sister Lorraine Vosburgh. She is survived by her brother Norman (Ann) of Florida, son Gregory Chlan(Joan) of Roanoke, VA, and daughter Virginia Poston (Samuel) of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kathryn Chlan of Richmond, VA, Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Chlan (Wendy) of Virignia Beach, VA, Vanessa Carter (Aaron) of Charlotte, NC and Maxwell Poston (Ashley) of Raleigh, NC. Dot is also survived by five precious great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the entire staff of Magnolia Glen for the compassionate and personal care they extended Dorothy from the first day she arrived. We could not have wished for more. A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on February 11th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 Creedmoor Rd. Raleigh NC.
