Dorothy Ann Kanop of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on Friday March 7, 2025, with her family by her side. Dorothy was a native of New York City and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2008 to be closer to her family.

Dorothy was born on April 12, 1930 in Manhattan, NY and grew up in The Bronx. Dorothy graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan and later earned a Bachelor's degree from Lehman College. She enjoyed a career as a legal secretary, working many years in iconic New York City landmarks such as Wall Street, the Empire State Building and the General Motors Building on Fifth Avenue.

Dorothy was a loyal and compassionate friend, who maintained lifelong friendships. She also had many cousins who were her dear friends. Dorothy was a woman of strong faith. She was a deeply devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and grandaunt. She held a special place in her heart for her only grandniece, Megan. Dorothy was an avid swimmer, a lifelong passion she enjoyed immensely.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Charles and Helen (Breslin) Kanop, and brother Joseph Kanop. Dorothy is survived by and will forever be missed by her loving family which includes her sister, Barbara Kanop Hazelwood, brother-in-law Don Hazelwood, nephew Donnie Hazelwood, niece Laura Hazelwood Alger, and grandniece Megan Alger.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday March 28 at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. Her final resting place will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY., on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11:30 am.
