Doris Elizabeth Bailey, age 75, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2019. She was born on May 20, 1943 to Harold and Irene Finken and was raised in Queens, New York, with her two younger brothers. At the age of 24, she married Charles Henry Bailey of Sayville, New York, and became a mother of three as they moved among various US Army duty stations until Charles retired in 1974. They settled the family in Raleigh in 1975. Doris’s passions were her family, her catholic faith, her pets, and her community service as a nurse and volunteer with outreach agencies including Birth Choice and Meals on Wheels. Although her ailments made life difficult in later years, she always ended every conversation with a warm smile and a simple request – please pray for me. Her faith was strong until her last breath. She is dearly missed but we are comforted that her earthly burdens have been lifted and that she dwells in the house of the Lord forever.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Irene Finken, and husband, Charles Bailey. She is survived by three children , John, Karen, and Kevin, two brothers, Thomas and Dennis, and seven grandchildren, Jacob, Connor, Harrison, Hunter, Abigail, John Henry, and Hope.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Raleigh at 10:00 am followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 am. A brief graveside service will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.
