Obituary For Donald Lloyd Nickel

Donald Lloyd Nickel

June 19, 1933 – April 28, 2014

In the quiet of morning, Donald Nickel’s courageous battle with cancer ended as he passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord.

To his family, friends and coworkers he was known as “Don”. Don received his master’s degree in engineering and was employed by Westinghouse for more than 50 years. Don was also a tax preparer for H & R Block during tax season for almost 20 years. In Raleigh, Don met the love of his life, his loving wife Betty. Don and Betty were married for almost 12 years and enjoyed many wonderful memories together. Don sincerely loved his children, grandchildren and family. He will be truly missed by all. May God grant the eternal and exquisite peace of Heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty and her three daughters; Kimberly Garten Price of Raleigh, Kelly Garten Martin of Benson, and Karen Garten Pavlinac of Raleigh; his son, Kenneth Nickel of Pittsburg. 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Gaigg and Betty Waring both of Wisconsin; and his best friend of over 50 years, Ethel Meyer and her daughters Mary, Carol, and Judy of Pittsburgh.

A private celebration of life service will be held for his immediate family. Entombment will be at Raleigh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to your favorite charity.

My deepest sympathy, Betty! I know my mother and dad would have liked to come for a visit and to the funeral. But my mother has been having a lot of pain in her knee and can barely walk. She is having knee surgery after Mother's Day. I have many memories with my Uncle Don and Kenny. We use to golf a lot along with my mother at Hortonville and also up north at Bass Lake Country Club. Having just celebrated another Easter, we know we all have a Savior in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again, giving us all the certain hope of a happy reunion in heaven through faith in him. He loves us and is with us to comfort us in our sorrows, until we all enter our eternal rest with him in perfect joy and happiness.

Ken, Our deepest sympathy as you mourn the loss of your father. He raised a fine son! Losing a parent is one of the biggest losses that can be suffered by anyone. Always remain thankful that he was yours. Words, however kind, can't mend your heartache, but those who care and share your loss with you, pray and hope for your comfort and peace of mind. During this difficult time, find comfort in knowing that you are being thought of and prayed for by so many as hope sets in for a better and brighter tomorrow for you, Betty and all those who loved him Much Love, Anthony and Jacki Lazzaro
