Donald Chester Coleman, 70, passed away at home on September 26, 2020. He was born on February 6, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Robert and Dorothy Ann Coleman. Don was the middle child of three brothers, Bob and Jack who are also deceased.

Don loved the Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and had attained the designation of Eagle Scout, of which he was justifiably proud. Don was an avid reader, swimmer, basketball player, runner, fisherman, skier and boater. He was a free-spirited, loyal and generous man who loved physical activity of every kind, especially swimming. He kept himself in extraordinary physical condition until 2013.

Don also loved his undergraduate institution, Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri which he proudly completed in three and a half years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his brothers, with whom he shared a special bond. Don would travel back for reunions, where he met with friends and stay with his best friend Nick Clapp and wife Sandy. He went to earn an M.A. in History from Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois. Most of Don’s career was working in sales. He also coached swimming at the YMCA in Statesville, NC. He enjoyed his monthly bridge dinner group of six fun-loving couples for over twenty years. Don very much valued his friendships and often spoke of Mike Fitzsimmons, Nick Clapp, Russ Perryman and Jim Luety. Mike Fitsimmons shared a tribute to Don on his Facebook page sharing that Don was a kind and caring soul.

Don was the beloved husband of Darien Coleman, with whom he shared twenty years of marriage. Due to present health precautions, a private virtual memorial for family and friends was held in November by wife Darien Coleman, daughter and son-in-law Andree and Tim Conley.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local ASPCA or Westminster College. Don believed if you wanted a pet that you should adopt. The family wants to express appreciation for the volunteer from Resource for Seniors, Mr. Issac Orndorff, who would spend his Saturdays helping Don and visiting with him. Don mentioned how he very much enjoyed his company while playing chess, watching sports and sharing a meal together. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Richard Adelman for his years of care and compassion throughout Don’s journey.
