Obituary For Dennis Hanley

Dennis Hanley, age 68, born April 29, 1946, Detroit, MI, passed away peacefully with his wife, Jeanie DeGroff by his side.

Jeanie and Dennis were married on April 16, 2011 at the Stone Chapel in Wake Forest, NC. They reside in Raleigh, NC. Dennis is survived by his wife; children: Erin Hanley and Jason Hanley of Charlotte, NC, and Courtney Hanley, of Washington, DC; and six siblings.

Prior to living in Raleigh, NC Dennis served the Michigan Highway Construction Industry as a Project Manager with; Charles J. Rogers Co, Dullinger Excavating Co., Mancusu/Thompson, JV, Cunningham-Gooding, Thompson-McCully Co., John Carlo, Inc., Sunset Excavation, Wilcox Engineering and C.C. Mangum, Raleigh, NC. Dennis served in the USAR from 1965 to 1971. From 1988 to 2007 Dennis attended, the First United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, MI.

Dennis would like any donations in his name be given to the; "The Mason Griffith Chapter of Trout Unlimited and "Bamboo Bend Project" written on the memo line. Mail checks to, Mason Griffith Chapter of Trout Unlimited P.O. Box 502, Grayling, MI. 49738. The Bamboo Bend project assists Wounded Warrior Veterans in the building of a Bamboo Rod over a period of nine days and then teaches them how to catch those elusive trout in the Au Sable River in Michigan.

A funeral mass to honor Dennis will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 4pm at The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi located at 11401 Leesville Road in Raleigh.

    I remember interviewing Dennis for a job many years ago. The reason he cited for wanting to head south was love of family: he wanted to be closer than Michigan. Rarely did a day go by in my conversations with him that he did not mention them in some regard. He is a class guy and someone I was proud to call a friend. I will indeed miss him. Michael Mangum

    Denny was a very good friend. A pleasure to wade a trout stream with Denny, walk a golf course and on cold winter nights we enjoyed sitting around a kitchen table tying flies and talking about the fishing trips to come with our group of Wolverine Fly Tiers.
