Obituary For Dennis Graban
Dennis Graban, 74, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on December 3, 2024. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born in Campbell, Ohio, Dennis was raised in the warmth of a large, close-knit family steeped in the traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church. These roots shaped his values and sense of community, which carried through his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anna and George Graban, and his sister, Sandra Whiteard.
Dennis's life will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 44 years, Jennifer Graban. Their marriage was a shining example of devotion and unconditional love. Together, they raised three children who adored and idolized their father: Jonathan Graban (Allison), Emily Cullinan (Stuart), and Ashley Dietrich (John). Dennis was a proud and doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren: Dennis (9), Cecilia (6), and Lily (2) Graban; Quinn (6), Asa (4), and Annie (3) Cullinan; and Milly (10), Piper (8), and Beau (5) Dietrich.
He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Graban, Claudia Moore, Joanna Farragher (George), and June Graban, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Family was at the center of Dennis’s world. He was a devoted husband and father, always putting his loved ones first. His grandchildren brought him unparalleled joy, and he cherished every moment with them, often dropping everything to be present in their lives. His unwavering love and support created a legacy of connection and devotion that his family will carry with them forever.
Dennis was a man of deep thought and unending curiosity. A lifelong learner, he was known for his active mind and body, embodying vibrant health and zest for life. Among his many passions, Dennis loved to cook for his family, taking pride in elaborate meals “made with love.” The lighthearted rivalry between Dennis and his brother Bill over who made the “best studanina” was a constant source of joy (though Dennis stood firm in his claim that Bill used too much garlic).
An avid gardener with exceptional talent, Dennis shared his expertise as an NC State Master Gardener, teaching and inspiring others in his community. He also enjoyed building model airplanes, exploring philosophy and religion, and spending time in nature.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, at 10 a.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC.
Dennis’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones as an enduring example of love, wisdom, and commitment.
