Obituary For Deepak Mago

Deepak Mago, 70, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 at home surrounded by his loved ones after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. He was born on October 10, 1953 in Mumbai, India. He was the son of the late Kharatilal Mago and Jankidevi Mago.

He attended Patkar College with a bachelor’s in economics. His charismatic energy led to a job working at the front desk at the 5-star Holiday Inn in Mumbai before immigrating to the United States in 1990. He truly lived the American dream, starting as the manager in multiple Indian restaurants in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area before becoming an Operations Support Specialist at the United States Postal Service. After retiring, he used his love of learning to teach driving to international students. During the pandemic he took up drawing, at which he was very skilled. Art, along with gardening, dancing, exercising, and watching India play cricket were his favorite hobbies.

He was united in matrimony to Kavita Mago on February 18, 1981, a loving marriage of 43 years. The union was blessed with 2 children, Deesha and Divyang.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mukesh Mago.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Deesha (Dhaval) of Cary, NC; Divyang (Hetal) of Rockville, MD; 4 grandchildren Ahana, Aalisha, Alina, and Ayaan. He is also survived by his brothers Tilak (Pooja) Mago and Bharath (Purnima) Mago; sisters Seema (Prem) Gandhi and Savita (Ashok) Ahuja; nieces (Meghna (Shelender) Sahni, Gayatri (Ritul) Agarwal, and Charu Gandhi); nephews (Chetan Mago, Dushant (Pranjali) Gandhi, and Bhishma (Kali) Mago); many grand-nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.

Deepak mama, I still can't believe that you are no more with us. You have always encouraged me to do better. You always said 'never stop learning, keep on learning new things everyday' and I have always appreciated you for encouraging each and every one of us. Thank you for being so supportive and thoughtful. I miss the time all of us spent in Goregaon's house together. The last time we met, I remember you were proud of me for what I am today. It is sad that we couldn't meet you, but yes we saw you for the last time today. Thank you to Kavita mami, Deesha and Divyang for making it possible, more strength and love to all of you. We will miss you, especially mumma. Meet you on the other side.

Dipu uncle was one of the most handsome, lucky and and a go to personality. I remember him from my school days when we would wait for him and Kavita aunty to come to India. He always tried to get something for everybody and for me he was like Santa Claus. He was a great family man with his Indian roots well within him. I cannot forget Rinky s wedding in Ahmedabad where he enjoyed a great function. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Mago family and all other friends and family. You will be missed.

Remembering Deepak Uncle from his most recent and all the India trips. We shall celebrate all the things he enjoyed with us- the long drive to Lonavala , flamingo sighting in the mangroves of the Atal Setu, bhutta on beach , his anecdotes while driving past Hotel Holiday Inn and the chatty family gatherings. My memories of him are not limited to India, but even the amazing NC trip where he & Didi hosted us, planned each day and even taught me to drive there in NC. I distinctly remember him pouring his heart and going down the memory lane while walking the lawns of Duke University with me and Tanisha. Sending all my and our family's love and support to Kavita Didi and the Kids. This is how we remember you today and every day Deepak Uncle. "Miss you more than you will ever know"...❤ Jyoti Aryan

Deepak uncle my uncle from the us , always waited for their trips and airport pick ups and drop offs , even though we met once every few years when he first met me and said kaise hai titu with his warm smile and so much apna pan we picked up right where we left it. It's a hard pill to swallow. I guess some where I self soothe thinking he is there and I'm here , just easier the think that than believe there is a world where he no longer lives. He was the the description of how to live life, how to prioritize family, an amazing husband , father , uncle and grandfather, he made it look so easy. He took a piece of me with him. My heart reaches out to rinky and Kavita aunty and I feel helpless I can't be there for them in this difficult time but in spirit I'm there. Lots of love and prayers. Gayatri ( titu) Ps: I keep looking at his comments on my photos

Dear Kavita and Family: Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our heartiest condolences. How one lives life is more important than how long. Deepak Bhai knew how to live and enjoy life and we see his smiling face in his heavenly abode. We will always strongly cherish Deepak Bhai's company during our Australia/New Jealand tour, and we sincerely appreciate Deepak Bhai's selflessness in teaching our grand kids to learn driving. May bhagwan give you the strength to cope with your sudden loss. We will not hesitate to assist in any way we can in your time of need. With best regards, Madhu and Santosh Gangwal.

Here is a eulogy for a dear longtime friend: With a heavy heart, and a sense of gratitude, as we celebrate the life of my dear friend, Deepak For 47 years, Deepak was more than just a friend he was an elder brother , philosopher, advisor and a constant source of comfort and support. I remember the first time we met like it was yesterday. It was my first day on the job at the Holiday Inn Bombay . From that moment on, our friendship grew stronger with each passing day. Years passed by and both of us migrated to the US 35 years We shared countless memories, laughter, and adventures. each day We supported each other through life's during challenging times and we were always there to lend a listening ear. Deepak had a heart of gold, a soft smile and dry sense of humor not known to many that could light up a room, and a spirit that was infectious. Though he was an introvert and a man few words yet He had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. His kindness, empathy, and generosity inspired me to be a better person, and I know I'm not alone in feeling that way. As I look back on our time together, I'm reminded of Deepak 's unwavering hope ,optimism, unrelenting enthusiasm, and his unshakeable faith in me. He believed in me when I was less optimistic and motivated me often and again to realize my God given potentials and to be my best self. Finally Deepak may be gone, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. His memory will continue to inspire me to live life to the fullest, to cherish every moment, and to never take our time together for granted. Rest in peace, dear Deepak You will be deeply missed, but your friendship will remain in my heart forever. You have left a deep void And there can never anyone quite like you May God bless your noble soul OM Shanti 🙏 Amen Shridar Ratnam

I just shared this with the family and we are so saddened. I am sorry and wish you all peace and love. He is forever in my life, as are all of you, for the time we were neighbors and friends. Always helping and enjoying each other. The perfect neighbors. He shall be remembered every day in what his children have become - pride and talented kids that he brought into this world and raised with pride and success with your mother. Deesha and Divyang are hurt, but you are both leaders and strong, and will find strength to help your family and friends. Your mother is a sweetheart and my love and wishes are with her.

I will miss this legend. The man who lived and loved Kingsize and left on his own terms, just that it was not his time. Then again we have tons of memories to cherish. My best vacations were with Deepak Uncle and Kavita Aunty. Somewhere some part of mine goes with him. A major setback to me and Meghna. We still had plans to cover some exotic places. Some people come to planet to spread happiness, help others. Deepak Uncle is one of them. Be it a Father, Husband, Uncle , Brother He was shining through. A man always positive about all aspects of life. He preached same. Meghna , my wife, would always run to him for any advice and guidance. Once he drove me from DC Airport to home in Eldridge, after I arriving I realised missing the bag of Documents. He drove me back and forth 100 miles to collect same with a large smile , pacifying me that the documents will be there safe. US wont be the same without you, you wont be out of our thoughts and prayers. You stay well Deepak Uncle, keep shining, hopefully at a better place. See you on the other side. Love- Manu and Meghna
