David and his wife and small children attended early morning mass 7:00 A.M. at St. Raphael Church, a very devout catholic man. God Bless his soul and may God give strength to his family and loved ones left behind.

As a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish here in Raleigh we will miss seeing David every Sunday living the life of a devout Catholic layperson and family man. I can not imagine the toll this loss will have on his family but we also know they lived their faith daily and death, our rebirth with God, His Angels and Saints is what our faith prepares us for. I knew David in law school. He was a loving and devoted husband and father first, and then a law student. And he still graduated first in his class even though he had a wife and 4 children! He was always so kind and compassionate, and was so proud of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with Patsy and all of his children.

Words cannot express the shock & disbelief that I feel right now as I am just learning of Mr. Guin's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a pleasure to work with during our adoption process. He was always talking about all of his children & I remember how my husband & I couldn't believe that he had so many. Once our son was born, we took our Levi by his office so he could see him. Again, I truly enjoyed Mr. Guin representing us during the adoption process. It made a difficult & lengthy legal process much easier. Godspeed, Mr. Guin.

I had the pleasure of working at Batton & Guin for a couple of years while I was in high school. I consider it an honor to have had David as one of my first bosses. I have fond memories of my time at the law firm and of David. As I think back, I'm grateful for the kind words of encouragement that he gave me over the years. When I started my first nursing job, he told me that the hospital would be better for having me on staff. He also once told me that I would make someone a good wife one day. I am thankful I was able to pay my respects by attending his funeral service today. Patricia and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. I never spoke to you much at St. Joseph (now I wish I had), but I remember you were always a stable figure there. From hearing everything and seeing everyone who came to the funeral Mass today, I know that you were truly loved by all your brothers and sisters-in-Christ. You touched so many lives throughout your life, you will be truly missed. While preparing for this weekend's Celebration of the Eucharist at the Church of St. Luke in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, the main candles will be lit for David Ray Guin and his grieving family. Norbert Scanlan, sacristan.

My deepest sympathy to the Guin family. I had the privilege of knowing and working for David at Batton & Guin for a number of years. Anyone who knew David well knew his passion for his church, his family and his work. David has left a legacy that many of us could only imagine. David's life is a shining example for all of us. May God wrap his loving arms around the Guin family and comfort them with peace.

David Guin handled the adoption for two of our children. Through his generous service and advocacy for children he afforded our family the gift of life. He will forever be woven into the fabric of our family's life story. David exuded remarkable kindness, honesty, knowledge, and perseverance through our adoption journey. Every time we look into the eyes of our son and our daughter we will see a piece of him, because without him our family would not be complete. He was a wonderful man and the world is a better place because of the impact he had on it. We want to extend our love and deepest sympathies to his entire family.

8th grade students at St. Mark Catholic School will be gathering at 12:15 in the Adoration Chapel for the First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We will offer our time in Adoration for the soul of David Guin, and for the comfort of his grieving family, and many friends -- of whom I was honored to be counted.

one of my first recollections of David is riding the bus to Washington DC for the March for Life. He didn't just talk about his Catholic faith but lived it out. Our family and our daughter, Rachel, will be forever grateful for the time and labor that your family put into STMA. Being on the parent teacher association we were able to see first hand how much time he invested in our students lives.

Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.

David was a true friend of Birthchoice and will be so missed by all. He was a warrior for the moms and babies. I could tell you many stories but the one that most especially comes to mind is one just before I came on board as the director. I happened to be at the office one Saturday when Betty was out of town. I had a knock at the door and was told that we had a 16 yr. old girl who was brought to our office after refusing to have an abortion at the local clinic. Her father and grandparents had taken her there and told her that they would "kick her out," if she refused. When she did refuse they went home and gathered all her belonging and drop them at the curb of the abortion clinic. We wanted to make sure that we found a safe place for this young woman to go so that she would not end up right back at the clinic. David was our lawyer on the board of directors at the time. He came right in on a Saturday and spent many hours talking with the young woman, the staff, and social services. He was so gentle, kind, and reassuring to her and everyone. Today this woman is now the mother of a little girl and going to college on a full scholarship! David was a longtime member of the board of Birthchoice rotating on and off with his good friend and lawyer, Tim Thelen. He also gave the "appeal" at many Benefit for Life Galas. How do you thank a person who helped you in your most trying days with self-sacrificing generosity and gallant effort? David Guin was a hero for me when I needed a defender and he was a man of deep conviction and faith. I saluted the Captain whenever I saw him and I salute him today for being a great Man of God. Dear Patricia, My prayers and deepest condolences are with you and all the family during this most difficult time. You are greatly loved.

I had the privilege of working with David all those many years ago at Womble Carlyle. He always had a smile on his face, and nothing seemed to get him down. I saw him several times over the years and it was always a huge smile, a handshake and the question "how many kids do y'all have now?" Truly a beautiful soul. I have not had the opportunity to see David and Patricia much since Catie graduated from STMA but I remember he always had a beautiful smile and a gentleness about him. I will surely miss the great big hug I would receive when I did see him. His faith and love for his wife shown through and he was just a living example of Jesus among us. He will be greatly missed. I was a member of St. Joseph parish before I moved to Arizona in 2014 and served on parish council with David. I think what struck me most about him was what a genuinely kind man he was. He was so devout in his faith and that showed throughout his interactions with everyone. My prayers are with his family and for the repose of his soul.

I was a colleague of David's in Franklin County. David was a beacon of light in the world, and he reflected that light within the legal system. David was a fantastic advocate, and his love for families and belief in redemption were clear in all that he did. God used David to be a blessing to the people of Franklin County. Because he stood at the opposing table, I know that many will not know what it meant for them to have David there, but I do. David treated people with genuine compassion clearly keeping in mind the hope of redemption. I deeply admired that about him. I was so glad to have seen him recently at where else but Wal-Mart. We had a long chat standing in the aisle. He was telling me all about their trip to Ireland. That's was one of the many things about him that was different. He took the time to talk and to care about people. Between the deadlines and stress of the office, we all managed to laugh. The service this afternoon for David echoed who he was in life. I'm lucky to have known him and wish I had known him better. He defined the manner in which a professional should carry himself both in and out of the courtroom and I learned a lot from merely watching what he did in court. While the grieving will continue for a long time to come, the beauty of his life shows that who he was and what he will be remembered for will never die.

David was instrumental, perhaps key, to the adoption of our daughter in 2009. He worked tirelessly, and clearly not just as his job, to ensure justice for her and a chance for a God-honoring life. It is easy to disrespect lawyers these days, but David was special. God put him in a place where he could help children in need, using his gifts as a negotiator and advocating for those who have no voice. Jesus admonished His disciples saying "Do not hinder the children, for theirs is the Kingdom of God". David lived out his Lord's commands in this regard and I am sure he is receiving his reward right now in Heaven. Sola Deo Gloria!
