David and I were childhood friends, and we loved to play basketball. We used to sneak into the high school gym at night, turn on a couple of lights, and play all night, napping on some wrestling mats and then getting up to play more. He also had a goal on a pine tree at his house that we used to play on. We had one memorable trip to Atlantic Beach. We stayed at a tiny motel attached to the pier and cruised around looking for girls. One afternoon, we found BJ Thomas playing to an empty pavilion. (David recognized him, so we sat down and listened.) BJ played for a while, and then took a break, sat down at our table, and bought us our first beer, a Schlitz tall boy. David talked guitars with BJ while I eyeballed the girls in the Pavilion. I was really looking forward to riding in a golf cart with him. So, so sorry for his family and friends. Calvin Allen

I have some great memories of David of when we were suite mates at ECU. He was such a kind, caring person who was extremely intelligent and had amazing musical talent. I especially remember how impressive he was in being able to ace exams without hardly opening the text books as well as his ability to listen to a song a couple of times and then be able to play it perfectly on the guitar. Rest In Peace old friend. Walt ( Bubba) Fowler

Sending sincere condolences to David's family and friends. He and I worked together on New Bern Ave as the first Tour 2 crew on the PO's inaugural Flat Sorter Machine. David had a warm personality matched with his warm smile. Rest on David in Jesus' everlasting arms. A friend and colleague, Sadie C Davenport 🙏🏾😪

So, many condolences to the family of a swell guy. I knew David at the USPS and we exchanged lots of pleasantries. Never saw the guy raise his voice or disturbed in anyway. Just always seemed relaxed; I guess that's the way of a golfer. I knew he was an NC State guy, because he would sometimes wear their gear on casual Fridays at work. I know that anybody who was associated with him will miss a kind person, like David. Just keep his memory alive and reflect on the good times, often. Hezekiah

In all the years I worked with David at the Post Office, he never had an unkind word. It was alway, "How can I help you today?" I pray peace for his family and strength for the coming days.
