David Meriwether Lewis, Jr. passed away on August 30, 2018, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Boroyan Lewis, and his parents, David and Betty Lewis (née Lapp). He was survived by his daughters, Clarissa Lewis, of Raleigh, NC; Christine Smith (and husband Kevin), and grandchildren Erin and Alex, of Middletown, MD; brothers Stan Lewis (and wife Phyllis) of Indianapolis, IN; and Frank Lewis (and wife Susan), of Lexington, KY; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Boroyan and Helia Lew, of Fresno, CA; Regine Wilson of Elk Grove, CA; and Gisele Woodman (and husband Jim), of San Jose, CA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from DePauw University, a Law Degree from the University of Virginia, and later a Master of Laws Degree from George Washington University. He joined the United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate General in 1961. Throughout his distinguished 28-year career, he served as an attorney, a judge, and an appellate judge on the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals, before his retirement in 1989. He served his country with great pride, residing all over the world, including assignments in England, Spain, Texas, California, Alabama, Hawaii, and the Metro Washington DC area. It was at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath Base, in England, where he met the love of his life, Marguerite, who was a French teacher at the base high school.

David was an enthusiastic sports fan, and rarely missed a game of his beloved Washington Redskins. He had a gift for story-telling and writing, and published a short story after his retirement. David was also a very devoted husband and father, who enjoyed vacations with his family and taking part in activities with his daughters. Later in life he enjoyed games of bingo with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.

I knew David Lewis only through his charming daughter, Clarissa, who is a role model to us all about how to be a loving care giver through all the difficulties of aging parents! May you find strength in knowing you have done all the kind, careful and sweet things to make your dads final days, weeks and months more meaningful and comfortable! He knew he was deeply loved by you and your sister, Christina. With my sincere sympathy, Ellen C

Clarissa and Christine; I am so sorry for your loss. I certainly enjoyed your Dad's friendship back in the Sunrise (GM) days in Fairfax. We had some interesting topics of conversation that usually involved politics or the Redskins. He was always so well informed. But his pride really showed when he could talk about his daughters. Your parents could not be any prouder for all the love and care you gave them. Your friend in NVA. Craig Jerabek
