Obituary For David Brian Knudson

David Brian Knudson, 60, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. David was born on December 10, 1964, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Geoffrey C. Knudson and Kay E. Wardensky Knudson.

David’s life was marked by an enduring love for family, adventure, and making a difference. He graduated from Woodstock High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction with High Honors from the University of Florida. Over the years, he built a successful career and was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at Choate Construction Company, where he was respected not only for his leadership but also for his commitment to excellence and his ability to inspire those around him.

Dave leaves behind a remarkable legacy of expertise and compassion, having dedicated 22 years to Choate Construction and 42 years to the construction industry. Whether it was his unwavering passion for supporting teams in delivering successful projects, his drive to inspire and help others grow, his willingness to tackle challenges and push the limits of what seemed possible, or his deep love for classic rock, Dave's integrity and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on countless colleagues, clients, and peers. He will be profoundly missed.

David’s life was also defined by his dedication to his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Tracy Knudson, and their three children: Matthew C. Knudson (married to Sarah Kathryn, with grandchildren Calvin and Emily), Daniel G. Knudson, and Marissa G. Knudson. David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose warmth and presence will be deeply missed.

In addition to his family, David had a passion for the outdoors and the open road. He loved boating, hunting, traveling, and experiencing the world. His love of music was a constant source of joy, and he was known to embrace the transformative power of live performances. A favorite quote that David often shared reflects his spirit:

"Oh, let the sun beat down on my face and stars fill my dreams. I’m a traveler of both time and space to where I have been."

— Kashmir, Led Zeppelin

David’s legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he touched throughout his personal and professional journey. He was a man who lived with purpose, warmth, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

A Mass to celebrate David's life will take place on Friday, December 20th at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Raleigh, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network bcan.org Or The North Carolina Wildlife Association www.ncwildlife.org

Dave played a huge part in our lives. Because of Dave, we live in NC. He convinced my dad (Elmer) to relocate to what dad thought was the land of snakes. Within 2 years, his children followed and we have been here ever since. His smile could light up a room and his love for his family was obvious to everyone around him. Tracy and family, I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Tracy and family. Met Dave 42 years ago when he was an intern with Pepper Construction in Chicago. So many great memories I will always have of you brother!!

Knut I will never forget the day you, I, and Rigby drove to the Woodstock football championship game, drinking beers and almost getting busted on the way! Then almost missing our exit and the guardrail! Do one of the main reasons I moved to North Carolina! I'm gonna miss you, brother.!
