Obituary For Daniel Jeremy Licatese

Daniel Jeremy Licatese, 49, of Raleigh, North Carolina died November 2, 2024 at his home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 12, 1975 in Montclair, NJ and lived his childhood life in Columbia, NJ. After graduating from North Warren High School in Blairstown, NJ he attended Barton College in Wilson, NC where he attained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1997. In 2012, he graduated with distinction from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA with his Master’s of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Emergency and Critical Care Nursing.

Daniel was a Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse, Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist, a researcher and author, and was inducted into the Honor Society of Nursing. Daniel dedicated his entire nursing career to UNC Health/Rex Healthcare, first as a staff nurse, then preceptor, charge nurse, nurse educator and in his advanced practice role as a clinical informatics specialist. Daniel loved his many roles. He was the best co-worker, always positive, willing to help, worked tirelessly and always kept the patient and the patient’s family in the center of his efforts whether at the bedside providing direct patient care, working with performance improvement teams to make clinical care better, or through information technology in making electronic health systems logical and efficient so clinicians could spend more time at the bedside.

Daniel is survived by his parents, Nick & Susan Licatese, his sister Wendy Flynn, brother-in-law Brian Flynn, his nephew Hunter Douglas Flynn and his beloved dog, Bailey. A memorial service will be held at Bay Leaf Baptist Church 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27614 on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. All family and friends are encouraged to celebrate his life at this time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bay Leaf Baptist Church. The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Jeremiah Boles for the wonderful care he gave Daniel who lived at least one year longer than anticipated and a special thank you to his wonderful friend, Leanne Edwards for her care and compassion as Daniel fought his battle.

My wife "Jay" and I wish to convey to Dan's family our deepest sympathy on the passing of your beloved son Dan. I had the privilege of meeting Dan in 1991. He joined the local ambulance corps as a cadet and was a member of my duty crew. After a period of time he expressed an interest in the nursing field. As anyone can see he certainly accomplished more than any of us could have imagined. He will be sorely missed by his family and his hospital family. Jerry Labar, Blairstown, N J +

I've know Daniel for nearly 27 years. We met at Rex while working in the CCU. He was a strong nurse, a mentor to many, and a great friend. Daniel was such a kind soul who is loved by many; and he will be deeply missed. My condolences to Daniel's family, and to all who knew and loved Daniel. My heartfelt thanks to his good friend, Leanne for her unwavering friendship and compassion shown to Daniel in his time of need. Daniel, may your face shine brightly in the perpetual light of our loving God. God grant you eternal rest. Until we meet again, God bless and keep you. Mariann Lannon

I first met Daniel in 2013 when we were working to deploy a new electronic health record (EHR). At the time, I was a report developer, and he was responsible for building new workflows and capabilities. I frequently turned to him for his expert knowledge and insights. Daniel was incredibly kind and thoughtful, always willing to lend a helping hand - and he did so with a smile. He truly cared about others and was driven to make a difference, which he did - a profound one. I am deeply saddened by his loss. Daniel was a bright light, and his impact will continue to shine through the many lives he touched.
