Obituary For Christopher Ryan Garmany

Christopher Ryan Garmany of Raleigh, NC passed away following a sudden cardiac event on August 6, 2022. The cherished son of Robert and Karen Garmany, he was born on February 28, 1981 and lived to be 41 years old.

Christopher attended Hale High School, where he played on the tennis team coached by his father and went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with his B.A. in Political Science. He also received his B.S. in Information Technology and Supply Chain Management from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

With a nearly 20-year career as a skilled optician and optical lab manager, Christopher applied his variety of skills to multiple eye care offices, most recently Wake Forest Eye Care Center. Admired by colleagues and customers alike for his enthusiasm and dedication, he was known for his patience, care, and respect for customers of all walks of life. This was especially evident in his charitable work with the Lion’s Club in Wake Forest, where he inspected the quality and matched the prescriptions of donated eyeglasses for overseas recipients and performed eye exams and eyeglass fittings for members of the local community who were unable to afford or travel for such services.

Beyond his academic and professional achievements, family and friends will remember Christopher most of all for his sense of humor, brilliance in all things to be tinkered with, willingness to help others, and penchant for taking in stray cats from storm drains, under cars, or wherever he might find them. His tight-knit family was truly his greatest treasure and the memories of his life will forever live on in their aching hearts.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Robert and Karen Garmany of Raleigh, NC, and his sister, Laura (Steve) Myrick and niece, Erina Myrick of Wake Forest, NC.

A Memorial Service to remember Christopher’s life and support his family in their grief will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, NC. Family and friends are welcome to a gathering with refreshments at Steve and Laura Myrick’s home directly after the service to spend time with the family.

Flowers and meals for the family (Meal Train) are both welcomed and appreciated, as well as donations in Christopher’s name to the Friends of Felines Cape Hatteras Island where his most recent rescue cat “Ingrate” will receive care and live out the remainder of her life in “cat heaven” with family.

To the family of Chris: I will always remember Chris for his kindness, fairness, humor and patience! I asked for him on my granddaughter's visit to the Eye Care Center in Wake Forest NC and was overcome with sadness that I will not see his smiling face and awesome greetings again! I cried, literally. Chris touched everyone's heart who he serviced with his optician expertise. He will be sorely missed. Thank you for sharing him with us and may our Heavenly Father give you peace and joy to know that he touched so many different people's heart and lives! Dianne E Branch

Dear Garmany Family: I went to the Eye Care Center for my annual exam today and asked for Chris and learned of his passing. I wanted to reach out and tell you what a nice young man Chris was, he had the best sense of humor, I loved that he rescued cats because I do the same. I enjoyed talking with him, I considered him a friend. I saw tears in more than my eyes, his Eye Care Center family sure did love him and they miss him too! I am so sorry for you loss. They say only the good die young, God needed another angel, I am sure... I light a candle in in loving memory of Chris. Will miss him so much! God bless you as I know you miss him every day!

To Chris' family - My name is Robert Champion and Chris graciously adjusted my glasses at the Eye Care Center in Wake Forest. I knew Chris since summer of 2017. He was always very kind and adjusted my glasses and replaced the nose pads. When I married my wife on June 12, 2020, I had to get my glasses adjusted. It was funny when the glasses bridge broke and my frame had to be replaced. Chris gave me a free pair. What a great guy. Take care, Robert

Chris and I were friends many years ago in Raleigh, but we had lost touch over the years. I will always remember our talks about everything in life. We talked about our dreams and wishes for the world. Chris was very steadfast in his beliefs, but the one thing that I always admired about him was his deep love for his family. I send my love to all he left behind. He was a good soul, and I'm sorry he never got to grow old like we talked about so many times.

We knew Chris from the Eyecare Center; he was our favorite "glasses fitter." Chris was so knowledgeable about the details and nuances of fitting lenses. He was always welcoming, patient and conscientious about his work. But... we remember him mostly as a kind and happy soul with a biting and self-deprecating wit, easy smile, and a laugh that was catching. And he talked so warmly about his parents and sister. "I have great parents." He said that to me one day when we were chatting, and we agreed that those of us who can say that are truly fortunate. We are sad that Chris didn't have more life in him, but in his time in earth he touched many.... Cynthia & Gary Bowers

First and foremost I am deeply saddened for Chris' family. Chris was a bright light all the time. He possessed a wi Sergio smile with twinkling eyes. On top of it he really was the epitome of customer service. I recently stopped to pick up a pair of glasses and to see him to offer my thanks and gratitude for helping me. I am shocked and saddened his coworkers won't get to continue to learn from him. He was really really good at his job! To his family, I hope you feel Chris' hugs and that his memories ease your loss. My deepest sympathies, Winnie Eden

Chris, at times I still can't believe you're gone. I will always be grateful for your friendship and the optical knowledge you gave me! Rest easy, my friend! My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time!

The Gura's have been blessed by people who serve us well here in North Carolina and we are very sad today to learn of Chris's passing. I so looked forward to seeing him today and shocked to hear the bad news. If you wear corrective lenses you know important opticians are in your day to day life and Chris went above and beyond. He was a listening ear during Life events and always asked about Marc during his illnesss. He had the quickest wit and always greeted us with a smile. It is rare to know so much about a person when you only see them a few times a year but I will always think of him as a friend. Rest well Chris

Chris was such a great classmate and sweet friend. We are so sorry for your loss. I remember him and his dad being so passionate about Hale's tennis team, and I thought that was so neat his dad coached his team. My brother in law passed away unexpectedly last September at 43, and it's hard. You are in our prayers. Praying the Lord will hold you close as you grieve. "Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4 Love, Sarah Goldston Bryant and family

As a customer of Chris's from the Wake Forest Eye Care Center, I am so devastated to learn of his untimely passing. I had just spoken with him by phone the Friday before his death and made an appointment to see him the following Monday, August 8th, to pick up my new glasses and sunglasses. Upon arrival at the office on Monday, I was informed of his passing. He had diligently worked with me for nearly 2 months to fine-tune new glasses and sunglasses following my recent cataract surgery. It hurts my heart so deeply that he wasn't there to see that he ultimately nailed it on both my glasses and my sunglasses. I will never again wear either of them a single day without thinking of him. A true professional and such a sweet, caring guy. He will be deeply, deeply missed. My heart goes out to his entire family and to all who knew and loved him. - Pamela Benfield

So very sorry to hear of this loss. I worked with Chris for years-I am a sales rep. I loved seeing him each time I visited. He wore one of my frames and it kept breaking on him over and over. I felt so badly! But he would just laugh and ask me to order him a new one every time I saw him. Customers loved him. He was always so positive. I will miss his smile and his laugh.
