Obituary For Christine Strickland Durant

Our beautiful Christine Strickland Durant, peacefully passed away and entered into glory with her Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 7, 2018 at the home of one of her loving daughters.

Christine was born Mary Christine Strickland on October 24, 1929 in Tabor City, NC to MW and Arrella Turbeville Strickland. She spent her young life living on her parent’s farm. After high school, she graduated from East Carolina University in 1951 and continued her education at the University of Tennessee. She interned at Duke Hospital to become a dietician.

She was married to Edsel Dixon Durant and became a dietician with the state of North Carolina. “Granny” as she was affectionately called, lived in Rocky Mount, NC and had four children. She raised her four children in their home on Ridgewood Drive.

After working in Wilson, NC for over 25 years, she relocated to Raleigh, NC and continued her career with the State of North Carolina until she retired at the age of 62.

Christine is preceded in death by her son, Michael Wade Durant and her son-in-law, Billy D. Earwood.

Surviving children are Tina Durant Earwood of Raleigh, NC, Diane Durant Joyner and John D. Joyner of Pine Knoll Shores, NC, Cheryl Durant Barnhill and Thomas W. Barnhill of Rocky Mount, NC, daughter-in-law Nancy King Durant of Greensboro, NC.

Her surviving grandchildren are Jonathan and Jennifer Earwood, Blake and Sarah Joyner, and Luke and Brock Barnhill.

Momma, we love you always and you will forever be in our hearts.
