Obituary For Christine Beth Muhlhammer

Christine Beth Muhlhammer, born September 17, 1950, daughter of Richard Eyler and Jane Hartman Eyler, went to be with Jesus on January 2, 2018. Chris will be greatly mourned by her loving daughter Katie Muhlhammer of Raleigh, NC and son Michael Muhlhammer also of Raleigh, NC and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

As an adult, Chris earned a degree in special education as well as her RN, BSN, and a Master's degree from Duke University in Faith Community Nursing. The combination of her special education background as well as her nursing background perfectly fitted her for taking care of her son's unique needs. Additionally Chris was involved in medical mission work in the past and for over the last decade was an integral part of the Surgical Services team at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Those who know Chris know that another passion of hers were her pets and animal rescue.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers those wishing to honor Chris's memory and legacy can make a donation to Alliance Medical Ministry of Raleigh, your local animal rescue organization, or WUNCTV/PBS.

I am so thankful and grateful to know Chris over the years. I enjoyed our conversations and getting her opinions. She was very kind to me. It was great to see her with family Mike, Katie and the pets Grantham and Miss Kitten to see the joy and love that she felt for them. Chris provided a comfortable home bringing about cheer with seasonal decorations. No matter what was happening in Chris' life, she was pleasant and thoughtful of others. She would strive to help people understand what was needed in a kind, generous and encouraging way while caring about their feelings and providing for their needs, too. She did SO much. It was amazing! Chris will always be an inspiration to me of love, care, commitment, sacrifice, and effort to help those around her in the best possible way. I will miss her so very much.

I have been putting this off---I guess trying to make it not real---but, unfortunately it is. Chris, I kept looking for you to come through our office door all last week, but, it wasn't to be! I'm so sorry Katie! I know she loved you and Mike dearly, and she will be missed greatly! She was a devoted mom and a dedicated, hardworking friend in Scheduling. She taught me a lot, as many others and the void there will be huge! Katie please know that we love you and Mike and are here for you should you need us. Farrell

Sending love to the Muhlhammer family. I worked with Chris and knew how dedicated she was to her department. She was definitely my go to girl ! I can still see her walking back from huddle . She will be missed and may she rest in peace. Donna Hannon

Chris blessed our little congregation in St. Marys, PA when she and her young family moved there in the mid-80s. She was spiritually minded, energetic, visionary, family focused, and helpful in every way; a tremendous mother and role model. Her Bible Quizzing team was a great inspiration to those involved and those who lent support. Our face to face communications ceased when Chris family moved to Raleigh in 1990 and we moved to New England in 1993, though we reconnected via dailyencouragement.net about ten years ago. We loved Chris; her big heart, her mothering skills, and her unshakable devotion to Michaels extensive needs. Her spiritual beauty and tender heart lives on in her precious daughter,Katie, whom we are praying for as well her precious son, Michael. We wrote a story about her care for Michael here @http://www.dailyencouragement.net/testimonies/mike_muhlhammer.html

I don't think I have ever met someone as strong as Chris. The dedication to her family and her work was amazing. I am thankful that she was a part of my life and one that I called a friend. The memories of her I will treasure forever.

As Farrell said, I keep expecting to see you walk into our building every morning. You always had a moment to chat and ask how everyone else was doing. You were a wonderful mom, co-worker, and friend. Will miss you greatly. Denise Jacobs

I worked alongside the Muhlhammer family for a couple of years, always admiring Chris for her quiet strength, determination, patience, and her hope in Christ. I've pocketed several tender words of wisdom that she shared with me across the breakfast table before she left for work. I've unfolded her wisdom time and time again and often think of her character as something to emulate. I've been reminded of her often in the newness of my journey in motherhood and hope that I can be at least half as faithful, loving, and thoughtful as Chris. My heart is full at the thought of her... but it also turns within me knowing I won't see her again in this life. Prayers for Katie and Mike in this time.
