Charles (Chuck) H Brotman, of Raleigh, NC, died on March 6, 2023 at Wake Med, STICU. He was 67 years young. Chuck was born in New York City on October 5, 1955, son of Sibyl Brotman and the late Joseph Brotman.

Chuck started winning awards in Science at Paramus High School, and completed his Bachelors Degree in Computer, Electrical and Systems Engineering in 1977 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. While working at IBM, he earned his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at Syracuse University, NY in 1983. Chuck continued to win additional awards at IBM and was part of a team that earned patents. He and his wife, Michelle, whom he married on June 22nd, 1986 moved to Raleigh, NC in August 1993 to further his career. Chucks passion was Karate and he practiced for 20 years before suffering a stroke at age 41. He enjoyed reading, Book Club, science, weekly lunches with the Romeo’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out), music and stimulating conversations. Chuck has touched many lives and was known for his ‘punny’ sense of humor. In fact, Chuck’s daily goal was to get out of bed so he wouldn’t “miss his nap”.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Joe Brotman. He is survived by his spouse, Michelle; daughter Stephanie (Long) Campoli, son-in-law Jeremiah Campoli and granddaughter Cora Campoli, all of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his mother, Sibyl Brotman of New Jersey; sister, Joanna Brotman and husband, Mark Seltman of New York City; and niece Cassandra Seltman of New York City.

I initially met Chuck while helping him with his rehab after his stroke. Our relationship went from a professional one to a friendship over the next few years. Several people have said "You should have known him before his stroke", and that would have been nice, but the Chuck I did get to know was a wonderful guy, easy to be around, easy to laugh and of course quick to drop a pun on most topics we hit on. We bonded over jazz, Asian cuisines, our socio-political similarities, hockey games and movies. I moved away from Raleigh 20 years ago, and though we hadn't seen much of one another, kept in touch now and again. On visiting Chuck and Michele last fall, though he was struggling with his health, we picked up right where we left off... and ordered out for some Chinese. I'll be missing him, but with his long struggle over, I hope he is at peace. Love you Michele, Steph, and of course Chuck. Marty Koehler
