Obituary For Charles "Charley" Culpepper
Charles “Charley” Culpepper of Raleigh, 85, passed from this world on Saturday, May 10, 2014 with his family by his side.
Charley was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 20, 1928. He graduated from North Fulton High School, Atlanta, GA in 1946. He attended college at Southern Methodist University, Dallas TX, and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950. Charley served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Hickam Field in Honolulu, HI from 1951-1953. In 1988, Charley retired from Hartford Financial Services of Hartford, CT. after working for 35 years as a certified property casualty underwriter. He also served as the company secretary, an officer, on the Board of Executives.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, James and Mabel Culpepper as well as his brother James all of Dallas, TX.
Charley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye Johnson of Brunswick, GA, whom he married on June 27, 1952 in Hawaii. He is also survived by his two daughters, Lucia Keilty and husband Tom of Bethlehem, CT; and Julie Naegelen of Beaufort, NC; as well as his five grandchildren, Chelsea Lawrence of Bogue, NC; Carly Frank of Morehead City, NC; Leah, Ryan, and Samantha Keilty of Bethlehem, CT. Charley is also survived by his one great grandchild, Emma Faye Lawrence.
The family of Charley would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Steven Liebowitz for his care to Charley for over twenty years; his aid, Juanita Seda and Buddy Stegall. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Abrams and the Wake Medical Surgical Trauma Unit, Rex Hospital, and the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church parishioners of the Wednesday group.
A Service will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 130 PM with a burial to follow in the garden and a reception in the parish hall. The Reverend Greg Jones will be the officiant for the service.
