Obituary For Charleen Rose White
Charleen White, 86, of Raleigh,NC, died peacefully on November 19, 2020 with her son, Alan and his wife, Amy by her side.
Charleen was born in Glidden, Iowa, on August 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Lila and Clarence (Pat) Bruning. She is preceded in death by her husband James R. White, her sisters Shirley (Lathrop), Mary Lou (Crilley), and her brother Deane (Bruning).
Charleen married James R. White in Denver, CO. on May 21, 1960. They have four children. Susan (William) Hines, Jim (Terry) White, Tom (Jill) White, Alan (Amy) White.
Charleen is survived by her children; nine grandchildren: William T. (Britt) Hines III, Brandon (Brooke) Hines, Brian Hines, Hayden White, Emma White, Preston White, Elizabeth White, Nathan White, Camille White; one great-grandchild: William T. Hines IV; and by 21 nieces and nephews.
Charleen will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother. She lived for her family and her friends. She was a kind and gracious woman. Charleen enjoyed traveling and visiting her children in Los Angeles, Dallas and Reno when she was able. When the time came that it was more difficult for her to make those trips, she came up with the idea of a family trip to the beach in North Carolina each summer, in August, to celebrate her birthday. First, in 2001 we went to Wrightsville Beach, NC. Later, as the family grew, we moved the party up the coast to Topsail Island, NC. So, a tradition was started and each year the family would go to Raleigh and caravan to the beach for a week together. In 2019 the family went to Charlottesville, VA to celebrate Brandon and Brooke's wedding in September. We did not go to the beach that year. This past August, we were able to get to Topsail with mom and we celebrated her 86th birthday. There was discussion as to whether or not to go because of COVID, but we made it happen. Good times and great memories of our family together with mom will live forever in our hearts. Thanks, mom!
Mom loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing bridge with her groups that she belonged to. Early on she was active in her church, St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in North Raleigh. Dad served as the first Parish Council president for St. Luke.
