Lover of life and outdoor water sports, Brian Davis, age 21 died June 22, 2017 in a scuba diving accident off the coast of North Carolina.

Born and raised in Raleigh, a Leesville High School graduate and recent college graduate of UNC – Wilmington, Brian had a love for water related activities his entire life. As a young child Brian spent countless weekends and summers at Lake Gaston. Brian led an active life and played for the High School tennis team where teachers, parents, friends recognized him as a hard-working, conscientious and dedicated individual whose energy and joy was contagious through his brilliant smiles.

Brian was living his dream in Wilmington which started early with attendance in childhood summer programs associated through UNC-W. This is where his passion grew toward marine life sciences and Scuba diving. As a young adult, while living in Wilmington and attending UNC-W, Brian found the passion of spearfishing and free diving and as a freshman Brian founded the UNC-W charter of the Spearfishing Club.

Brian learned the joy of cooking creatively from his Dad, and loved sharing his culinary creations with his friends and family, often cooking whatever fish was his very own fresh catch of the day. Brian’s interests outdoors were wide, he enjoyed fishing, bike riding, duck hunting, snow skiing, water skiing and wake boarding, but his passion was with the sea in Wrightsville and free diving with his friends.

Brian was an entertaining conversationalist and brightened the lives to anyone in his presence. Brian recognized the presence of God in his life and it was evident that God’s love showed clearly through him and those that loved him. Brian loved and shared much time with his brother, Kevin, as a true and life-long friend.

Brian worked many part time jobs as a student and was so excited as a recent college graduate to begin full time employment at a local company in Wilmington starting a new chapter in his life.

Brian is survived by parents, Kathy and Charles Davis, brother, Kevin Davis of Raleigh, and his loving girlfriend, Gabriela Madeira of Wilmington. To Brian's family and friends: I am truly saddened by your loss. I had the pleasure of having Brian in two of my entrepreneurship classes this past year. His interest in entrepreneurship was evident in the business plan he prepared and presented to me. His passion for everything related to the ocean was contagious. He had a trademark smile and will be missed by those who were fortunate to know him. Steve Harper, Professor of Entrepreneurship, UNC Wilmington

Sending prayers to your family, girlfriend, and closest friends, Brian. Here are a few pictures from our 8th-grade year (which was clearly our prime attractive year). I wish I had gotten to see more of you during our college years, but I'm so happy knowing you lived such a fun and adventurous life. I know you're up in heaven looking down on those you love.

I taught Brian when he was a freshman at LR and I remember his big smile smile the most. He was always smiling. It is easy to forget students when you teach thousands of students, but I vividly remember Brian. He was a very likable young man and I was very saddened to hear he passed.
