Bernice Leonora Jonas was born in New Amsterdam, Guyana on January 29, 1945 to the proud parents of Claudius Caesar Jonas, deceased and Lillian Rebecca Sinclaire, deceased.

In June of 1968 Bernice Leonora Jonas was introduced for the first time as Mrs. Bernice Leonora Welch when she married our father Malcolm Aubrey Welch. As a wife and soon to be mother, the couple made the difficult but necessary decision to move forward and overseas to America.

Although times were rough in the early days, our mom was a strong woman who always persevered. She always saw life in the positive. As a single parent, there came a time when she realized she would need to reinvent herself to make it financially. Our mom took herself to nursing school and in two years’ time had earned her LPN and obtained employment as a dental assistant. She would later move on from that position and in 1989 she acquired a position at the Victim Services of NY as a residential supervisor until her retirement.

Our mom understood that sometimes in life there is no instant gratification. Sometimes in life you have to get uncomfortable, be a little embarrassed and make sacrifices in order to grow, in order to do for your family. She taught the importance of education and hard work. She was a wonderful mom who was always there when we needed her.

Our wonderful mom, with her beautiful warm smile was a singer, a sewer, a cook and baker. She was humble, kind, loving, thoughtful, generous, modest, never judgmental, always forgiving person.

In December of 2017, our mother left New York and came to live in North Carolina. Here she remained until she was called to rest on November 7, 2022.
