Please pray for Basilia Escalante Fajardo who passed away peacefully at the Dunlap Center for Caring 11:02 pm, May 29, 2014 in Raleigh, NC. She was 96 years old.

Ma Bessie, as she is fondly called, is best remembered as the hard-working and caring housewife who served as the stabilizing force in the family particularly after her husband, Professor Pelagio Fajardo, who died August 13, 1974. The four children: Freddy, 68 (married to Norma Natividad) Oskar, 66 (married to Polly Manalo) Olga, 62 (married to Armando Manuel) and Julius, 55 (married to Wennie Castro) shall be grateful forever for the life they now enjoy.

Basilia was a wizard in the kitchen, an expert at embroidery and needlework, an accomplished gardener, and above all a devout Catholic. She was one of the pioneering members of the Maquiling Ladies Club in the late 1940’s and an advocate of the Catholic Women’s League of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.

The body will lie in state at the Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC. A visitation including the blessing will be held 2:00 to 3:00 pm Wednesday June 4, 2014. The cremated remains will then be brought to the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel, the Catholic community of St. Francis of Assisi, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh NC for a holy mass at 1 pm Friday June 6, 2014.
