Obituary For Bartlette S. Sanders

Bartlette passed away on August 27, 2017. She graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte and attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gibson Locke Smith and Elizabeth Bartlett Smith; brother, Gibson L. Smith, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and son, Brison Locke Folkes of Murrells Inlet, SC. She is survived by her husband, Dewey N. Sanders of Raleigh, NC; sister, Sumner Holman of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Sloan Knaffle and husband, Jim Knaffle; grandchildren, Smith and Jay Knaffle of Murrells Inlet, SC. She is also survived by two stepsons, Steven Todd Sanders of Santa Clarita, CA, and Kevin Scott Sanders of Tabor City, NC. Bartlette had a huge impact on the positive development of her stepsons during their preteen and teenage years, and they loved her as much as any stepmother could be loved. Her husband wishes to thank the staff at the Steward Health Center at Springmoor Life and Retirement Community in Raleigh, including housekeepers, CNAs, nurses and others for their love, kindness and care that was generously provided to her. Funeral arrangements include visitation from 7pm to 8pm on Tuesday, August 29 at Renaissance Funeral Home on Six Forks Road in Raleigh. Funeral service at 1pm at Montlawn Memorial Park Chapel in Raleigh. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

    What a beautiful woman Bartlette was! I always remember her supportiveness and the great fun we had planning and implementing Dewey's retirement reception at the Capitol in 2002. Positive, witty and upbeat - they were the perfect pair!
