Obituary For Asha Pai Bohannon

Dr. Asha Pai Bohannon, PharmD, CDCES, CPT, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away suddenly from a heart attack at her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday, June 7, 2024. She was 45 years old.

Asha was the cherished spouse of Eric Bohannon and a devoted mother to their two children, Naveen (13) and Shaleen (10) Bohannon. Her vivacious and outgoing personality made her a beacon of light, positively impacting all who knew her.

Born with an innate passion for helping others, Asha earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her personal experiences with family members affected by diabetes fueled her commitment to specialize in diabetes care. Asha became a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and held additional certifications in Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and Immunization.

Known for her captivating sense of humor, she uplifted those around her with kindness and positivity. Her legacy of love, laughter, and holistic healing will continue to inspire thousands fortunate enough to be touched by her presence.

In addition to her husband and children, Asha is survived by Karnire S. Pai (Father), Kasturi S. Pai (Mother), Nesha Pai (Sister), Neil Pai (Brother), Nephews (Rupen, Milan, and Rohan), numerous friends, colleagues, and patients who admired her tireless dedication to improving lives through compassionate care.

Asha's life will be celebrated in a private family service. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in her honor, ensuring that her mission to provide holistic healthcare continues to thrive.

Asha's mission for "making trial and error a thing of the past" began in retail pharmacy, where she soon recognized the need for a more holistic approach to healthcare. She founded the PAI Wellness Group, where she implemented her unique 7 Steps to H.A.R.M.O.N.Y.™ process focused on a holistic care model that managed illness with the fewest medications possible. Asha always talked about harmony in life, not balance. She believed that harmony in the mind, body, and spirit was an integral part of living a healthy and happy life.

Asha's work extended beyond patient care. Together with her husband Eric, she launched programs like IMPACT Pharmacist™ and the Center of Excellence programs, providing foundational business knowledge for other pharmacists wishing to launch their wellness practices. Her efforts assisted numerous pharmacists in avoiding burnout and finding fulfillment in their careers, thereby increasing the influence of pharmacists in the industry.

An accomplished author, Asha penned To Medicate or Not? That is the Question! and IMPACT Pharmacist: Start Your Own Wellness Practice and Leave Your Retail Pharmacy Job Behind! These works reflect her dedication to patient advocacy and her ambition to revolutionize the healthcare system by empowering patients and practitioners.

Dr. Asha Pai Bohannon will always be remembered and cherished by those who loved her and those whose lives she impacted.

To the Pai and Bohannon Families, I am a teacher at Lynn Road and have been for many years. I was saddened by the news of Asha's passing. I was sad when the boys moved to another school. I have fond memories of Asha and her being the PTA president. She rallied for the teachers during her time at Lynn Road. She got us our Covid T-Shirts. During a supply pickup I was wearing mine. I thanked her for them as she was responsible for us getting them. She asked if she could take a picture. She did, and that picture is in the year book. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am proud to say that I know her and she touched my life. Warmly, Karen

Since Friday, I have been sort of an emotional mess. I think that's ok. I posted on one of my socials, a question on how to grieve the loss of a friend. I have done a lot of grieving in my life... but this is just a new territory. And I kept wondering, what my friend, soul sister Dr. Asha Pai Bohannon, PharmD, CDCES, CPT , would tell me right now. So many things. If you have spent , 5 seconds with her , you know she was very easy on words and she meant every single one of them. She would tell me to take care of myself. To allow my heart to feel whatever it is feeling. And ultimately, she would have said my favorite thing: lay it all at His feet. I can't begin the understand the depth of the grief and loss her family and near friends feel. I can't. And sometimes, I found myself , ashamed that I am so stricken by her passing.... Almost like a fraud. But then I remember...through #PizzaIsNotWorking, I have met a lot of people. I have had meetings. I have seen people in real life. Had face to face conversations. But very few came close to the relationship I had with Asha , despite the fact that we have never met but were planning on meeting. I would say, my " phriendship" and " soul sisters" connection was unique. She would not call me a fraud. She would say ... there is enough love in this world to go around. I will so much cherish her words about my book. Her vulnerability and honesty. Her love for her family. The way she took care of those around her. Her passion for wellness and wholeness. She loved mentoring. She loved Pharmacy and its people. And she loved God...deeply. This wave... feels foreign and I am not a swimmer. But in Asha's word, find strength and courage and lay it all at His Feet.

I had the pleasure of meeting Asha recently through her collaborative practice with Andrea in Wayfinder. We had two virtual meetings, during which I quickly discovered Asha's penchant for personal connection and passion for helping her patients find harmony in their life, be it through medication management, personal training, behavior management or life coaching. I had just signed on with her as a client and was looking forward to building a new relationship with someone that I knew was going to bring order and meaning to my life. I am saddened that my connection with her was so brief but feel honored to have known her what little time that I did. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to her husband, children, extended family, colleagues and clients, as I know all that knew Asha must be grieving her loss.

Asha and I met at Wilson Pharmacy in Johnson City, TN over 20 years ago. We kept in touch so when I moved to NC a few years after, we were able to get together again. We shared celebrations of both our weddings and our babies. We would meet for lunch when we could get away. She helped give flu shots to employees at my work. I loved her wellness mindset. So many good memories. She was one of the sweetest, caring people I've known. She always offered friendly advice and was a good listener. She was so smart, she amazed me many times over again. I'm so glad I got to know her over the years and am very sad. She will be missed terribly by all she touched! My thoughts and prayers go out to Eric, their kids and her immediate family. Asha was a beacon of light. I just spoke to her and we talked about so much. I was looking forward to seeing her soon. She was a mentor to me and so many others and my heart is completely broken. She loved everything she touched fiercely and was kind, passionate and vivacious and such a joy. Her children were everything to her. She will always be an inspiration to me and so many. Words cannot express Obi and I's heartfelt condolences and love to Eric and the boys and the rest family. God be with you all through everything. We love you all dearly.
